Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has agreed a new contract with the club, ending speculation over his immediate future.

What’s the story?

The 31-year-old had been tentatively linked with a move away from Anfield earlier in the summer after he entered the final two years of his current deal.

However, Henderson and Liverpool have now ended that scrutiny, with the two parties in agreement over terms on a new three-year deal.

That’s according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who claims Jurgen Klopp was key to the apparent turnaround and that the Reds have the option to extend Henderson’s stay by an extra year.

Fans will be absolutely buzzing

Although Henderson hasn’t put pen to paper just yet, Liverpool supporters will still be absolutely buzzing to learn that their talismanic midfielder is set to commit his future to the club.

Since arriving from Sunderland in a £20 million deal back in 2011, the England international has established himself as a key player on Merseyside, scoring 30 goals and providing 51 assists in 392 appearances for Klopp’s charges.

He was instrumental in Liverpool’s maiden Premier League success and sixth European crown in recent seasons, and Henderson will be hoping to lead the club to more major silverware in the years to come.

Ornstein stated in his report that Klopp was keen to avoid a repeat scenario of the one that played out in the current window with Georginio Wijnaldum, who moved to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer following unsuccessful negotiations to renew his contract.

The delay in Henderson signing a new deal was not believed to be about money, though, rather his role in the team and how FSG, the club’s owners, view him going forward.

Several sides such as PSG and Atletico Madrid were credited with an interest in Henderson during the impasse in negotiations and Ornstein has claimed that they may still harbour hopes of signing the box-t0-box dynamo.

“PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino also admires Henderson while Atletico Madrid and Roma have been linked too. If Liverpool’s owner Fenway Sports Group (FSG) gave an impression they might countenance his exit, such suitors may retain an interest regardless of a new contract,” he wrote.

But for now, it seems as though Liverpool’s captain will remain at Anfield a little while longer, and he’ll follow in the footsteps of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho and Alisson Becker in signing new deals this summer.

India’s selectors have picked Sourav Ganguly in a 15-man squad for the first two Tests against Australia. He is expected to join India A in Chennai for a Test against New Zealand A beginning on October 3 because he isn’t part of the ongoing camp in Bangalore. There were also call-ups for Tamil Nadu batsman S Badrinath and Haryana legspinner Amit Mishra, who played three one-day internationals in 2003.The squad consists of seven batsmen, one wicketkeeper, four fast bowlers and three spinners. The six batting slots are filled by Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ganguly and VVS Laxman, with Mahendra Singh Dhoni as wicketkeeper. Somerset fought back well on the second day against Nottinghamshire, with their lower order batting well to boost the total very usefully, and then seizing two of the home side’s wickets before the close. Peter Trego with the bat and Charl Willoughby with the ball were the main contributors, and they will only hope that the weather will not condemn their efforts to futility.Somerset could well feel pleased with their morning’s work. Resuming at 143 for 7, they soon lost Alfonso Thomas, beaten by a ball moving in and trapping him lbw, for 15. But, with Andy Caddick at the wicket, Peter Trego now began to open up. He calmed down a little when he found Caddick capable of giving him excellent support, but kept the score moving to the extent that he reached his 50, with a hook off Charlie Shreck for four, in 71 balls.He looked a very capable batsman as he approached three figures, a rare achievement by a batsman at Trent Bridge these days, but he was finally very well caught by deep midwicket running round, as he miscued a slog-sweep off Graeme Swann. The pair had added 90 for the ninth wicket, almost double the next-best stand of the innings. Swann was now officially installed in this match after being released from the international at Cardiff yesterday morning.Last man Charl Willoughy is a rare creature, a left-handed batsman who is also a walking wicket. Caddick did his best to pile on the runs, and was unbeaten with 35 when Willoughby hit across the line and was bowled by Swann without scoring. The innings ended at 252, much better than had appeared likely overnight.The Nottinghamshire openers, Will Jefferson and Bilal Shafayat, could not have been thrilled at having to face two overs before lunch, but they survived. Unfortunately, during the lunch interval, a light drizzle started, and persisted for about two hours. It never became heavy, but once it stopped it took another two hours before play restarted, a fact that does not speak well of the drainage on this ground. Play finally begun again at 5 pm with 18 overs required to complete the day, mostly in sunshine.Nottinghamshire began slowly before Jefferson had a temporary burst of scoring strokes that took him into double figures. Somerset claimed a catch from Shafayat, when on 3, off Caddick at short extra cover, but umpire Mike Harris disagreed. The two have rarely looked convincing as an opening pair, though, and Shafayat gave a hard chance to gully when he had 16.Jefferson was the man to go, however, poking outside the off stump and being caught at the wicket off Willoughby for 21 out of a stand of 40. This was the first delivery to be bowled after a very lengthy hold-up for the usual ball-change. In the same over, without addition, the nightwatchman Andre Adams fell to a low gully catch/They finished the day at 46 for 2, with the match appearing to be evenly balanced. Unfortunately, if the dire weather forecast for tomorrow proves correct, the chances of a result in this crucial match are slim and, given the reluctance of the ground to dry out after light drizzle today, the chances of any further play at all may be doubtful.

وأضاف: “على ثقة أن الاتحاد المصري سيجد من يعمل بشكل جيد، كنت أود أن أستمر وأعطي أكثر، ومصر على الطريق الصحيح، وكنت أحاول إدخال فلسفة معينة مع الفرق الوطنية، والآن هناك رؤية مستقبلية لكرة القدم حتى عام 2028، المديرون الفنيون الذي كانوا يعملون معي رائعين جدًا”.

وواصل: “مصر تملك أجيال جيدة جدًا، جيل 2003 رائع للغاية، وما قدمته للكرة المصرية ستظهر ثمارة خلال الخمس سنوات المقبلة، علاقتي بـ أحمد مجاهد طيبة وسهل لي كل شيء من أجل أداء عملي، أما المجلس الجديد كانت له رؤية مختلفة، ويمكن أن تتوقع أي شيء، وهناك متخصصون  في كرة القدم، حازم إمام ومحمد بركات وهما لهما صلة بكرة القدم ونقلت لهما كل المعلومات عن عملي”.

وأردف: “رحيل كارلوس كيروش لم يكن سببًا في رحيلي، الجميع يعرف مدى صلتي به، ولكن الأمر مختلف تمامًا، كنت أتمنى أن أستمر في منصبي، وللأسف هو من واجه حظًا عثرًا، لأنه خسر من السنغال في مباراتين وهذا كان أمرًا صعبًا”.

وواصل: “عقدت جلسة مع اتحاد الكرة قبل أن أغادر، وتركت الظروف مهيئة لمن سيأتي بعدي، وكيروش واتحاد الكرة اتفقا على التجديد، ولكنهما اضطرا لإنهاء الاتفاق بعد ذلك”.

واستكمل: “كيروش حجز تذاكر للعودة إلى القاهرة في 29 الماضي لكنه لم يعد لسبب مجهول، وحان الوقت لمساندة المدير الفني لمنتخب مصر إيهاب جلال، وهو من الشخصيات المحترفة، يلقي التعليمات بشكل جيد جدًا، ويقدم كرة قدم راقية، وكان اختيارا جيدا”.

واختتم: “أتمنى حظًا طيبًا لـ مصر أمام غينيا وسأكون مشجعًا للفراعنة وسأشاهد المباراة”.

طلب محمود الخطيب، رئيس الأهلي الذي يترأس بعثة فريق الكرة بالمغرب من السفير ياسر عثمان، سفير مصر في المملكة المغربية، بتكثيف التواصل مع الجهات المعنية للعمل على تسهيل وتأمين دخول جماهير الأهلي في مباراة الغد مع الوداد في نهائي دوري الأبطال، والتي تقام على مركب محمد الخامس.

جاء ذلك في إطار التنسيق الكامل مع السفارة المصرية، ونظرًا لتدفق جماهير الأهلي من مختلف الأنحاء لحضور المباراة، في الوقت الذي لم تتسلم فيه البعثة سوى ٢٥٠٠ تذكرة فقط من العشرة آلاف تذكرة التي خصصها الـ«كاف» للنادي، وقد بذلت بعثة الأهلي جهدًا كبيرًا في التواصل مع مسئولي «كاف» واللجنة المنظمة للمباراة خلال الساعات الماضية للحصول على بقية التذاكر، لكن لم تتلقَّ أي استجابة.

وباتت هناك أعداد كبيرة من الجماهير المصرية في حاجة إلى تذاكر لدخول المباراة؛ لذا جاء تواصل رئيس الأهلي المبكر مع السفارة المصرية لتفادي أية أزمات عند دخول الجماهير غدًا، والعمل على تأمين سلامتها في نفس الوقت.

تحدث جمال الشريف الخبير التحكيمي عن هدف الأهلي الملغي أمام البنك الأهلي في المباراة التي جمعت الفريقين يوم الأربعاء الماضي، في الدوري المصري وانتهت بالتعادل السلبي.

وكان النادي الأهلي أرسل اليوم الجمعة، خطابًا للاتحاد المصري لكرة القدم يطلب فيه إعادة مباراته مع البنك الأهلي. طالع التفاصيل من هنا.

وقال الشريف في تصريحات تلفزيونية عبر فضائية “أون تايم سبورتس”: “هناك شقان، شق أساسي وأخر مُكمل، قوانين اللعبة تسعى للحفاظ على العدالة، الحكم موجود لتحقيق العدالة وتقنية الفيديو تمت لتنفيذ المزيد من العدالة”.

وتابع: “بروتوكول الفار يُطبق مبادئ قوانين اللعبة، عملية استئناف اللعب في المادة 16 الخاصة بالكرات الحرة، أن تلعب الكرة من مكانها وثابتة، وهناك العديد من الحالات التي توقف اللعب بسبب هذا الأمر”.

وأضاف: “إذًا هناك خطأ حدث في عملية التنفيذ وبذلك هذا يستوجب قانونًا عدم شرعية الهدف، وبالتالي من واجب الحكم أن يوقف اللعبة”.

وأردف: “اعتمد المحللون على أن يتم إلغاء الهدف لأنه غير شرعي وأنا منهم، والفئة الأخرى من المحللين اعتمدوا على الكرة التي حدثت في مباراة أستون فيلا”.

وأوضح: “عملية بناء الهجمة تبدأ باستئناف اللعب، وكرة هدف الأهلي لم تأخذ وقتا طويلا في تنفيذ الكرة وحتى الهدف، وبالتالي أعتقد أن تدخل تقنية الفيديو صحيح”.

وأكد: “أنا قرأت بروتوكول الفار، وفيه عند بناء الهجمة التي يتم تسجيل منها هدف على تقنية الفار أن تتدخل، إذا كان الهدف غير شرعي”.

هل هناك شيء اسمه روح البروتوكول؟ أجاب: “البروتوكول يُطبق فلسفة ومبادئ قوانين اللعبة، ومن هذه المبادئ هي العدالة ويجب أن يحقق السمات الأساسية للعبة، والقرار بإلغاء هدف الأهلي صحيح طبقًا للوائح”.

Manchester City have been dealt a blow in their hopes of signing Jack Grealish this summer, as Aston Villa are reportedly confident that he will sign a new deal with Dean Smith’s side.

According to the Daily Mail, Villa are confident that they will be able to tie down their talisman to a new deal at Villa Park, which will significantly increase his wages and potentially see off interest from the Citizens.

City have been regularly linked with a move for the England international in recent months, with reports suggesting that they are ready to pay £100m in order to bring him to the Etihad this summer.

The former Notts County loanee enjoyed a superb campaign with the Villans, contributing six goals and 10 assists in 26 Premier League appearances, which helped him average an impressive 7.56 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

Only Harry Kane and Kevin De Bruyne rated higher in the 2020/21 Premier League, so it is easy to see why Grealish is attracting so much interest from City this summer, and also why Villa are desperate to keep him at Villa Park by handing him an improved deal despite his current contract not set to expire until 2025.

Harry Redknapp was full of praise for Grealish’s performances last season, saying: “I love to see teams go and attack and I love Jack Grealish. I’m a massive fan of his, I think he’s incredible.

“For me, I think he’s been the footballer of the year so far, if I was voting I’d pick him. He’s dragged Aston Villa up the league, he’s a massive part of what they’ve achieved this year.”

Guardiola is also a big fan of the Englishman, having dubbed him an “exceptional” player in 2019, and he will surely be frustrated if one of his top targets for the summer becomes unattainable due to a new contract at Aston Villa, as he could well be the difference next season if City are to finally achieve their goal of winning the Champions League.
