O provável Palmeiras tem Weverton, Marcos Rocha, Antônio Carlos, Edu Dracena e Diogo Barbosa; Felipe Melo e Bruno Henrique; Gustavo Scarpa, Moisés e Dudu; Willian.

Kent win but docked eight points

Scorecard
Kent needed barely 90 minutes of the third day’s play to wrap up their six-wicket win over County Championship Division Two rivals Essex – but they were later docked eight points after the Canterbury pitch was rated “poor”.Needing 70 to secure a championship and Twenty20 double over their neighbouring county, a nervy Kent side lost four top-order wickets inside 12 overs, only to be steered home by acting captain Geraint Jones with an unbeaten 28 from 14 balls.Martin van Jaarsveld, batting with a runner due to a groin strain, defied the pain to add an equally useful 21 not out to see Kent to a fifth win of the campaign with more than five sessions to spare. It would have earned them 21 points but pitch liaison officers John Jameson and Tony Pigott reduced that to 13 after deeming that the surface “demonstrated excessive unevenness of bounce”.The third day began with Essex struggling in their second innings and only 64 ahead with one wicket intact. That wicket fell to the 14th delivery of the day when on-loan David Balcombe had Tom Craddock caught behind for one, leaving James Foster high and dry on 49 not out.It gave Balcombe career-best match figures of 10 for 102 – his first 10-wicket match haul in county cricket. With a day and 91 overs to pursue their modest target of 70, Kent lost Daniel Bell-Drummond to a loose drive to short extra cover then Sam Northeast, pinned leg before on the back foot, with both wickets going to Graham Napier.Bell-Drummond soon returned to run for the injured van Jaarsveld, but wickets continued to fall as Darren Stevens edged behind to give Napier three for 42 and Joe Denly fell lbw for 17 to a shooting off-cutter from David Masters. It proved the final success for Essex, however, as Van Jaarsveld combined with Jones to see the hosts over the winning line.Jones played a captain’s cameo that included six boundaries, while Van Jaarsveld, batting virtually on one leg, plundered a six and four off Napier to secure Kent’s victory just before 12.30pm. Just under three hours later, though, their celebrations were tempered by a statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board which read: “An ECB pitch panel comprising John Jameson and Tony Pigott (pitch liaison officers) was convened to consider the pitch used for the County Championship match at Canterbury commencing on 31 August 2011 between Kent and Essex.”After interviewing the umpires, the captain and coach of both teams and the Kent head groundsman, the pitch panel determined that the pitch had demonstrated excessive unevenness of bounce and should therefore be rated ‘poor’.”As a consequence and according to regulations, Kent are penalised eight points which will be deducted from their aggregate of 2011 County Championship points.”Uneven bounce as early as day one aided Masters’ haul of six for 78 in Kent’s first innings, and Essex’s Maurice Chambers and then Denly fell to vicious shooters in their sides’ respective second innings. Essex’s Jaik Mickleburgh, meanwhile, required X-rays after shouldering arms and being bowled via his hand on Wednesday. Kent have confirmed that they will not appeal against the decision.

Will Gidman leaves Kent under pressure

Gloucestershire 107 for 3 v Kent 205
ScorecardWill Gidman claimed a career-best five for 38 as Gloucestershire bowled out Kent for 205 on the opening day of the County Championship match at Cheltenham. It was the former Durham all-rounder’s maiden five-wicket haul and his first three scalps helped reduce the visitors to 59 for 6 before Darren Stevens (67) and James Tredwell (45) put together a seventh-wicket stand of 83.By the close, Gloucestershire had reached 107 for 3 in reply, Hamish Marshall (37) and Kane Williamson (29) having added 78 for the second wicket. It was Jon Lewis who put the skids under Kent on an overcast morning, sending back Championship debutant Chris Piesley lbw for a duck and fellow opener Joe Denly, bowled for 13, to make the score 21 for 2.Marshall produced a fine low catch off his own bowling to dismiss Martin van Jaarsveld, who was captaining Kent in the absence of Rob Key with a hand injury. Then Gidman took over, claiming a wicket in each of his first three overs. Sam Northeast was caught behind having played positively for his 34 off 33 balls.Geraint Jones departed without scoring and Alex Blake could make only two as Gidman worked up good pace from the Chapel End. By lunch Kent had struggled to 89 for 6 off 33 overs. The over after the interval saw Tredwell, on 15, dropped by Ian Cockbain at gully off Lewis and it proved an expensive miss as the sun broke through and the left-hander counter-attacked to hit seven fours and a sixth in his 90-ball innings.Stevens was more watchful as the pair dug Kent out of a deep hole. The partnership ended when Gidman returned to have Tredwell caught by wicketkeeper Richard Coughtrie. The same bowler accounted for Simon Cook, taken at second slip by Chris Dent for six and Ian Saxelby wrapped up the innings by removing David Balcombe and Stevens. The latter was last man out having been forced to go for his shots. He was caught on the extra cover boundary by Chris Taylor having faced 138 balls and hit nine fours.Gloucestershire’s reply had reached unlucky 13 when Dent got an edge to Stevens and fell to a catch behind for 12. Marshall and Williamson then produced the most attractive batting of the day before a short shower interrupted play at 5.50pm.The first ball after the resumption at 6.10pm saw Marshall bowled by Tredwell first delivery of the match. There was further success for Kent when Williamson nicked a rising ball from Balcombe to be caught by wicketkeeper Jones.

Inamdar slams 'ill-advised' minister

Cricket Kenya chairman Samir Inamdar has hit back at criticisms levelled against the board by sports minister Paul Otuoma

ESPNcricinfo staff04-May-2011Cricket Kenya chairman Samir Inamdar has hit back at criticisms levelled against the board by sports minister Paul Otuoma.Questioned about Kenya’s poor showing at the World Cup, Otuoma said: “The officials are responsible for the current rot in the game.”Inamdar countered that despite several invitations, Otuoma had yet to sit down with CK officials or even acknowledge attempts to arrange meetings”It’s unfortunate that, in these circumstances, [he] has chosen to air his ill-advised views publicly and to condemn the Cricket Kenya board without any proper consultation or discussion,” Inamdar said. “He appears to be clearly unaware of the history of the sport in Kenya, its challenges or the work carried out by the current administration since the inception of Cricket Kenya five years ago. Nor does he appear to be aware that the ICC regularly reviews Cricket Kenya’s operations, finances, development programmes, performances and governance.”Inamdar, who took over following the ousting of Sharad Ghai in 2005, inheriting a board is chaos and with no money, dismissed Otuoma’s suggestion the board should resign en masse. “[We] take exception to the apparent suggestion that constitutionally elected officials of a national sports association should either be replaced or compulsorily resign because the national team concerned has performed poorly.”The board is mandated by its constituent member clubs and by the ICC to govern the sport in Kenya and it fully intends to carry out its obligations in doing so.”CK has instigated a top-to-bottom review of the game’s structure following the World Cup, and both the captain and coach have been dismissed.”This review will include all aspects of the team’s preparations and performances with input from the entire team management, players and officials,” Inamdar said. “The ICC will be an integral part of that review and its representatives are due to fly into Kenya to discuss these matters with Cricket Kenya. The ICC will provide its own report on the performances of all the non-Test playing members (including Kenya) at the World Cup.”CK is conscious of the fact that far-reaching changes need to be made in the way cricket is played, managed and structured in Kenya if playing standards are to improve. The review is aimed at providing a long-term answer to this.”CK has invited the minister to meet with board members and the ICC’s officials at any time convenient to him to discuss the ongoing review and our future plans. It is sincerely hoped he accepts the invitation on this occasion.”

Morgan doubt for World Cup

Andrew Strauss has much to ponder as England fly home after more than three months in Australia and top of that list is now the “substantial” fracture to Eoin Morgan’s finger, which threatens to rule him out of the World Cup. It means England head home with injury issues hanging over six of their 15-man squad with just five days remaining before they leave for the subcontinent.Morgan was ruled out of the final match of the series in Australia after X-rays revealed a fracture to the middle finger on his left hand, which he sustained in Adelaide but was only picked up more than a week later. He flew out of Perth as the last game unfolded and will see a specialist immediately on his return to the UK.It is expected that the results will be known by the time Andy Flower, the England team director, sits down with the selectors on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the injury situation and Strauss is bracing himself for the worst.”He’s got a broken finger, he’s going to see a specialist tomorrow to decide what the best course of action is to remedy that situation,” he said. “There’s obviously a chance that he’s not going to feature. They went for an X-ray and I think everyone was reasonably surprised to see it was quite a substantial fracture.”

England’s walking wounded

Eoin Morgan: Fractured middle finger on left hand in fourth ODI against Australia
Tim Bresnan: Picked up calf injury during second ODI
Graeme Swann: Back strain kept him out of ODI series
Paul Collingwood: Back spasms sent him home after the sixth ODI
Ajmal Shahzad: Limped off pitch with hamstring injury during fifth ODI
Stuart Broad: Tore his abdominal muscle during second Ashes Test and didn’t feature in ODI series

Morgan’s absence would leave a massive hole in England’s middle order even though he had a poor series in Australia where he made 106 runs at 17.66. “He is [important], particularly in those conditions as well, being able to clear the ropes in the manner that he does,” Strauss said. “It’s a big loss for us potentially. Hopefully there will be an opportunity for him to play. If he isn’t available someone is going to have to fill those shoes.”Questions will be asked as to why it took so long to diagnose the problem, but Morgan insisted his finger was only bruised and carried on to play matches at Brisbane and Sydney. Eventually, the medical staff told him he had to have it examined and the full extent of the damage become clear. “He just thought it was bruised. He got on with it, but just when he was thinking it would start feeling better it got worse and it was restricting his play,” Strauss said.Despite the troubled end to the long tour and the 6-1 scoreline in the ODI series, Strauss knows his team achieved their major aim of the trip by retaining the Ashes in three crushing innings victories. “They are two different forms of the game and that Ashes victory was incredibly special and one that we’ll savour forever. You talk to people out there and they say ‘great tour’ even though we just lost 6-1.”We’re disappointed with the one-day results but we’ll get onto that plane, certainly those who were involved in the Ashes, and be very happy with what we’ve achieved.”However, to make this winter go down as one of England’s best, it is vital they don’t crash out of the World Cup in embarrassing circumstances as has been the case in the last four tournaments. While Strauss can still quite rightly reflect on Ashes glory the next seven weeks are another massive challenge. With our without injury worries.

A competição dentro do campo iguala o jogo’, afirmou Diego, camisa 10 do Flamengo.

Everton can replace Alli with Whitaker

Everton are in an extremely vulnerable position in the Premier League with just five games left in the season with the side findings themselves two points deep into the relegation zone.

If Frank Lampard does continue his role as manager at Goodison Park no matter the outcome, big changes have to be made to the current team and lessons must be learnt from the transfer disasters of the past.

One of the biggest transfer disasters this season was the signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli on Deadline Day, who was dubbed an “utter waste of time” by talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan and he has ultimately gone on to do absolutely nothing at Goodison Park since the day he was snapped up.

In a deal believed to be worth up to £30m depending on several different clauses, Lampard made his first huge mistake with Alli only making nine appearances putting out a game-time average of 24 minutes per appearance, with no goals or assists.

With that being said, the Toffees boss should be looking for other options to deploy in his time and could save millions if he promotes Charlie Whitaker to the senior team this summer, giving the golden opportunity to a youngster who has been impressing the people that matter at the club.

Everton U23’s coach David Unsworth hailed the youngster as “sensational” heaping praise for his progression in the youth system.

“He has played out wide, he has played up-front, but we have tried to play him as a second striker,” Unsworth began.

“Not a number 10 – a second-striker – because his game is naturally dropping into spaces where you want a number 10. We have tried to get someone up there with him and he has been sensational. He is a great trainer, great to work with and a great lad.”

The 18-year-old gem has found the back of the net five times and assisted once in Premier League 2 this season, and has featured once in the senior team with an opportunity on the bench back in October in the draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford under Rafa Benitez.

With Unsworth’s comments highlighting the diversity in attacking positions Whitaker can cover it will surely give Lampard something to think about at the end of the season when the fate is sealed on the club’s future in top-flight football and the youngster could find his opportunity to follow in the footsteps of fellow academy player Anthony Gordon.

AND in other news: Everton given green light to sign “undefendable” £50m gem, it’s bye-bye Richarlison

Man Utd without key duo for Watford

Manchester United will once again be without both Edinson Cavani and Scott McTominay for their Premier League clash against strugglers Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

What’s the latest?

Both players missed United’s 1-1 draw at Atletico Madrid on Wednesday in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie with the reigning Spanish champions, with McTominay suffering from an illness picked up following the 4-2 win over Leeds United last Sunday.

Red Devils manager Ralf Rangnick said on the midfielder’s availability ahead of their meeting with the Hornets: “He’s still ill and he hasn’t been training with us, so hopefully he will start training with us again next week, but for tomorrow’s game they will both [McTominay and Cavani] be unavailable.”

As for Cavani, the striker has been absent since 8 February with a groin injury, having last played in the 1-1 draw at Burnley, with Rangnick stating: “The situation is exactly the same. He [Cavani] hasn’t been training with us so he won’t be available for tomorrow’s game and the same is true with Scotty [McTominay].”

Fans will be sweating

With Arsenal not in Premier League action this weekend, United have a real chance to boost their top-four bid by extending their advantage over the Gunners to four points in fourth, although Mikel Arteta’s side will have three games in hand on Rangnick’s come Saturday evening.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last seven top-flight outings, winning their last two fixtures against Brighton and Leeds going into Saturday’s meeting with the Hertfordshire outfit.

Watford are really struggling towards the bottom of the table, with Roy Hodgson’s side 19th and four points from safety, making it a contest that the hosts should have no issue in winning on paper.

However, the absence of two of Rangnick’s senior players, who have a combined 44 appearances in all competitions, will certainly be a blow.

Even though the Uruguayan has only scored twice this campaign, Cavani is still a recognised goalscorer who, when available, undoubtedly adds quality to the side.

As for McTominay, the 25-year-old has started 21 of the 23 league matches he’s been available for this campaign, with the Scotland international certainly one of the German interim manager’s favourite pupils.

What will be a boost for fans though, is the fact that it seems likely that the midfielder will be available for next weekend’s Manchester Derby, whilst Cavani’s return date is still unknown.
