Man Utd Close To Completing Move To Sign "Interesting" £5.9m Goalkeeper

Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag is close to making another signing and the player in question is set to travel to England to finalise his move to Old Trafford, according to reports.

Who are Man United linked with?

In truth, the Red Devils have endured a little bit of a strange window as they aim to bring additional depth into the building at Old Trafford to supplement the squad.

As per Transfermarkt, Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund have all joined the club and look likely to be key players over the coming seasons for Manchester United; however, there is a growing sense of frustration that they may need more depth to compete on both domestic and European fronts properly.

Nevertheless, problems with being able to shift players off the books has harmed their ability to solicit further arrivals. Football Insider report that Ten Hag is keen to strengthen both his defensive line and midfield options before the close of play in the market, though player sales will need to occur to make this a reality.

It had previously been hoped that selling Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay to West Ham United could provide the 'requisite' financial gain needed to put the finishing touches to their business; nevertheless, both deals have since collapsed and complicated matters for Ten Hag.

ESPN claim that Manchester United are also eyeing a goalkeeper to help bolster depth in the last line of defence, but similarly, the outlet indicate that player sales will be necessary to initiate market activity.

Matej Kovar and Nathan Bishop have been sold to Bayer Leverkusen and Sunderland, respectively. Red Devils number two Dean Henderson could depart to either Crystal Palace or Nottingham Forest before the end of the window, while veteran stopper Tom Heaton is carrying an injury, signifying that Manchester United need to bring in another goalkeeper imminently.

Which goalkeeper are Man United signing?

According to Haber Turk via Sport Witness, Manchester United and Fenerbache have reached an agreement with goalkeeper Altay Bayindir for a fee in the region of €7 million (£5.9 million).

The report states that Bayindir travelled to Greece to complete a medical examination ahead of his move to Old Trafford and he will very soon land in England to officially join Manchester United.

Previously, The Athletic journalist David Ornstein reported that Bayindir had undergone a pre-medical due to an injury issue as Manchester United continued to mull over the 25-year-old, but it looks as if things have gone smoothly on that front and the deal will now go through.

Spending most of his career at Turkish giants Fenerbache, Bayindir has managed to rack up 145 appearances in all competitions, keeping 44 clean sheets in the process, as per Transfermarkt.

Bayindir made 57 saves in total over the duration of last campaign in the Super Lig and maintained a save percentage of 66.7% in the Turkish top flight, as shown on FBRef. Football Scout Jacek Kulig labelled Bayindir as "one of the most interesting U-23 goalkeepers in Europe" back in 2021 and it is easy to see why Manchester United are keen to bring him to the North West.

In light of their dearth of options in the goalkeeper position, Bayindir could be a good fit for Ten Hag and would be able to deputise for Onana.

Shamsi's four-for bowls Titans into final

Tabraiz Shamsi produced his best performance of the tournament so far to bowl Titans’ into the Ram Slam final, which they will host at SuperSport Park. Titans beat Warriors comprehensively by eight wickets to re-affirm their dominance in the tournament, which began with six victories in their first eight matches (with two wash-outs) but started to wane when they emptied their bench in the final week of the league stage before coming full circle on Wednesday night.Titans held the upper hand despite going into the knockout without Dale Steyn or Morne Morkel and lost senior batsman Henry Davids to injury four minutes before toss. Their attack dismissed Warriors for a below-par score of 143 before AB de Villiers and Aiden Markram helped themselves to a half-century apiece to wipe out the target inside 16 overs.Warriors were not able to give coach Malibongwe Maketa, who will now join the national team as Ottis Gibson’s assistant, a festive farewell, and could not repeat their heroics of last season, when they reached the final. They were on the back foot early, at 17 for 2 after two overs, but then rallied through Colin Ingram and Colin Ackermann, before Shamsi dismantled them, and de Villiers and Markram finished off the chase.Wayne Parnell, on loan from Cobras, returned to Warriors’ top two but was bowled by Albie Morkel for 4. Jon-Jon Smuts followed in the next over, caught by Morkel at cover point off Lungi Ngidi. Ingram and Ackermann shared a third-wicket stand of 63 but were separated in the 10th over when Markram had Ingram caught at point, again by Morkel.Enter Shamsi, who took two wickets each in his third and fourth overs. Though he was the one holding an imaginary phone to his ear, it was Warriors who should have called for help. Shamsi later explained his signature celebration as a “bit of fun because sometimes they phone the third umpire to check.”The only thing Shamsi needs to check is how far he is ahead of the chasing pack in the wicket-takers’ list. He has 16 scalps at 13.68, four more than his nearest challenger, Dane Paterson.Warriors did not last their full 20 overs and were dismissed with 11 balls remaining in their innings. They would have known the total was far from enough but had some early hope when Quinton de Kock’s lean run continued and Davids’ replacement, Heinrich Klaasen, managed 24. Titans were 44 for 2 after five overs but there was no stopping them after that. De Villiers and Markram put on an unbeaten 101-run stand and treated the sizeable crowd to some sensational shots to win with 4.4 overs to spare. The final, on December 16, will be played between Titans and the winner of the Dolphins versus Cape Cobras semi-final, to be held on Thursday.

Everton Battling Atalanta To Sign 21-Year-Old Attacker

Everton and Atalanta continue to battle it out over the signing of Almeria forward El Bilal Toure during the summer transfer window, according to a key update from renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Are Everton signing El Bilal Toure?

The Blues have been linked with various players since the end of last season, as they look to avoid yet another disappointing Premier League campaign in 2023/24, following back-to-back relegation battles.

In seems clear that Everton simply must bring in more quality in attack, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin hard to depend upon because of fitness issues these days, and the likes of Neal Maupay doing nowhere enough to justify being a regular starter moving forward.

Toure is the player who appears to have become the Blues' primary transfer target in the final third, with numerous recent reports claiming that a move to Goodison Park is on the cards this summer.

Now, another report has emerged that further suggests that Everton are pushing hard to sign the Almeria ace, but they are not alone in expressing an interest.

UD Almeria striker El Bilal Toure.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Everton?

Writing on Twitter, Romano provided an update on the latest situation regarding Toure's future, saying that negotiations will continue with Everton this week:

"Understand Everton are still pushing to sign El Bilal Toure while Atalanta are on it too. Both clubs are in the race, fighting to sign Almeria striker. Negotiations will continue next week to get it done."

This is another positive update when it comes to Everton trying to acquire Toure's signature, and it ultimately looks like a straight choice between themselves and Atalanta, who have become a force in Serie A in recent years and will, therefore, provide stiff competition.

The lure of the Premier League is always great for any player, however, and if Sean Dyche can sell the Blues to Toure as a club, promising him a key role leading the line, it could sway his thinking.

While more than one attacking signing is probably needed at Goodison Park this summer, in terms of Dyche having enough squad depth at his disposal, the Almeria man could be a perfect place to start, coming in as a long-term signing who should only improve year upon year, considering he is still only 21 years of age.

A tally of seven goals in 22 appearances for his current club is a good start there, considering he is playing in one of Europe's top leagues, while five in 15 caps for Mali also shows that he is already making his mark on the international stage.

Toure has been compared to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, in terms of his extremely physical style up front, which should certainly excite Everton supporters and Dyche – if he has anywhere close to the impact the Ivorian did in England, then the Blues could have an absolute gem on their hands.

It looks almost nailed-on that the Malian with leave Almeria before the new season gets underway, and it looks all set to come down to either Everton or Atalanta, with the two clubs looking to outdo one another and show why Toure should choose them.

Sky Sports Reporter Drops Intriguing Kane Update Out Of Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur may be "open to selling Harry Kane" to Bayern Munich for the sole purpose of eliminating the "prospect of him going for free to a Premier League club next summer", according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Is Harry Kane leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer?

Despite Spurs having a brilliant start to the summer transfer window this year, bringing in talented players like James Maddison for £40m, Manor Solomon for free, and Guglielmo Vicario for £17m, the attention has again shifted to star striker Kane.

Former Leicester midfielder James Maddison.

The Walthamstow-born goal machine has just 12 months left on his £200,000-a-week contract at the north London club, a fact Europe's top sides are well aware of.

Earlier in the window, it looked as if Manchester United were the favourites to secure his signature before pulling out over the price and Daniel Levy's reluctance to negotiate.

It was Spanish giants Real Madrid after that, but again, the price tag was deemed too much for Los Blancos, especially just after signing Kane's compatriot Jude Bellingham, and then came Bayern.

The German Behemoths are – currently – the only side actively pursuing Tottenham's all-time leading goalscorer, and they do not seem put off by the challenge of negotiating a deal with Levy, so far anyway.

harry-kane

The Bundesliga champions have already had two offers for the 29-year-old turned down by the club, the second being worth an estimated €80m (£69m) plus add-ons, per the Evening Standard.

While their second offer was ultimately deemed not good enough, it does look like it has been successful in so much as Spurs are now willing to speak to them directly, potentially as the realisation has set in that by selling now, they can avoid the disaster of their star player joining a Premier League rival for free next summer, per Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

He explained the situation live on Sky Sports News (via Football Daily), saying:

"The information that we are getting is that Tottenham have opened dialogue with Bayern Munich and that Harry Kane is looking at all avenues that are available to him. Now one avenue we have been told that is not available to him is moving to another Premier League club. We understand that Tottenham Hotspur will not sell to another Premier League club.

"Now if they are keeping the dialogue open with Bayern Munich, it would suggest that if a deal can be agreed, they could be open to selling Harry Kane simply because if they sell to Bayern Munich, one, of course they're not selling to a Premier League club, but they eliminate the prospect of him going for free to a Premier League club next summer."

harry-kane-tottenham-hotspur

Who else have Tottenham Hotspur been linked to this summer?

Just because the club are involved in yet another transfer saga with Kane doesn't mean that there isn't a plethora of players being touted for a move to N17, with one of those players being Danish centre-back Joachim Andersen of Crystal Palace.

According to the Sun, Ange Postecoglou is pushing hard for this deal as he wants to improve the quality of player he has at his disposal and views the Dane as that quality.

joachim-andersen-crystal-palace-premier-league-newcastle-transfers

However, there are two major stumbling blocks to this deal. The first is that mega-rich Newcastle United are also said to be interested in the 27-year-old, and two, Palace want a club record fee for the player, which would be around the £50m mark.

Another player, the Lilywhites, are interested in is Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic. According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Spurs are "taking the first steps to better understand the situation" of the Serbian striker.

The Italian has claimed that the club see him as the "ideal replacement" should their efforts to keep Kane fail.

dusan-vlahovic-juventus-tottenham-hotspur-transfer-gossip-postecoglou-maddison

This deal has similar problems, in that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the Juve man, and he would likely cost in the region of £77m, according to reports from Italian media. Although, with this deal being contingent on Kane's departure, the price might not be such an issue.

Whatever happens with Tottenham's leading scorer over the next month and a half, it looks almost certain that he won't be playing for any other sides in the Premier League come next season.

All-round Kleinveldt gives Northants dream start

ScorecardRory Kleinveldt had an opening day remember•Getty Images

Rory Kleinveldt took three wickets and smashed a 23-ball fifty as Northamptonshire dominated the opening day of the Specsavers County Championship season. Kleinveldt first helped fire out Glamorgan for just 101 before going to a rapid fifty as Northants closed 268 for 6, a lead of 167.Kleinveldt took 3 for 35 among a fine performance from the Northants seamers. Nathan Buck, on his Northants debut, and Ben Sanderson also took three wickets each as Glamorgan were bundled out in only 31.3 overs. Then late in the day, Kleinveldt was back, this time bat in hand, to smear the bowling all over Wantage Road, his seemingly effortless power on show. In just 23 balls he heaved away seven fours and three sixes – the pick of which was a flat slap over long-on to bring up his fifty – to push Northants towards a match-winning lead. With the ball, Kleinveldt set up the day with two early wickets before Buck produced a dream start to his Northants career. Buck arrived from Lancashire over the winter with the aim of reviving a career that began with much promise at Leicestershire but stalled during two injury-affected seasons in the North West. But back in more homely East Midlands air, he showed the ability that brought him England Lions selection. He struck second ball, drawing an edge from Colin Ingram to wicketkeeper Adam Rossington. Next over a full delivery trapped Chris Cooke lbw for a six-ball duck and Kieran Carlson followed with an edge to Alex Wakely, who took a sharp catch low down at second slip. The hat-trick wasn’t to be but Buck had plunged Glamorgan to 26 for 6 after Kleinveldt removed Nick Selman lbw for 10-ball duck in the third over of the day. David Lloyd shouldered arms and was also lbw, for a five-ball duck, in the following over.Sanderson was equally probing with the new ball and removed Jacques Rudolph caught at second slip for 9. He returned after lunch to induce an edge from Harry Podmore that was sharply held by Richard Levi at third slip.It took several heaves from No. 10 Marchant de Lange – one a wild edge that flew for six over the slip cordon – to nudge Glamorgan into three figures but de Lange was last man out, swinging wildly at Sanderson and losing his off stump. It rounded off a very poor effort from the visitors.Glamorgan tried to keep themselves in the game, reducing Northants to 27 for 3 before Wakely and Rossington shared 65 for the fourth wicket. Wakely fell to a top-edged pull for 38 – Rossington in the same fashion, but only after an attractive 84-ball fifty.Rossington made a rapid century against Loughborough MCCU earlier in the week and looked in good touch here. He pulled Podmore for six over square leg and lifted de Lange over midwicket for the third of his five boundaries. But his best stroke was a sumptuous straight drive off Craig Meschede. But his innings was completely overshadowed by Kleinveldt. He survived an early scare when he pulled to Carlson on the deep square boundary, only for Carlson to run out of room in trying to complete the catch. But thereafter used his power to brutal effect and put Northants into a match-winning position.

Newcastle Can Land Wilson Upgrade With "On Fire" £30m Titan

Newcastle United enjoyed a hugely successful 2022-23 campaign in which they finished in the top four of the Premier League – and thus earned a return to the Champions League – while also reaching the EFL Cup final.

The pressure will be on Eddie Howe to build on that success next season, but if that is to happen then certain steps must be taken – not least strengthening the squad.

With Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento reportedly both close to joining, Howe's focus can then turn to bolstering his attacking options. After all, Newcastle scored 20 goals fewer than Arsenal last season, and 26 fewer than champions Manchester City.

That is the type of company the Toon now find themselves in, and in Sevilla star Youssef En-Nesyri they may just have a candidate to help further bridge the gap.

Who is Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri?

According the Sunday Mirror (25/6; page 75), Newcastle have already been in contact with Sevilla to enquire as to how much it will cost to sign En-Nesyri this summer.

A separate report from Spain suggests the Magpies are willing to pay €35m (£30m), which could be enough to tempt the Europa League winners to cash in.

Whether it is to initially provide competition or indeed replace Wilson, En-Nesyri certainly looks cut out to make an impact at St James' Park. The Morocco international – who has Champions League experience, remember – scored 18 goals for Sevilla in 48 games last season.

callum-wilson-newcastle-united-leicester-city-match-opinion-premier-league

Wilson scored an identical number of goals and, as highlighted by FBref, there were plenty of similarities between the players in terms of shots on target percentage (43.3% for En-Nesyri, compared to 41.3% for Wilson), passes completed (8.39 per 90 v 7.69 respectively) and even discipline (four yellow cards each).

But En-Nesyri outshone the Englishman in a number of other areas, such as aerial duels won per 90 minutes (3.12 v 1.01), which could come in handy when factoring in link-up play with Alexander Isak.

The Moroccan, who is five years younger than Wilson, also helps provide a nice balance to the attack, highlighted by his ability to win the ball back – 0.47 tackles won per 90, compared to 0.12 for Wilson.

A modern-day striker is about so much more than just ruthlessly finding the net, but the way En-Nesyri finished last season suggests he is only going to get better in that regard.

Indeed, the bullish forward did not score in LaLiga until January 28, but he finished the campaign with eight goals to his name. Taking all competitions into account, he scored 12 times in a run of 19 matches, showing exactly what he is capable of when finding his rhythm.

As Moroccan football writer Bence Bocsak stated: "The World Cup really helped [En-Nesyri's] form. Absolutely on fire at the moment and finally back to his best."

That hot streak so close to the transfer window opening could tempt more clubs than just Newcastle to make a move for a player who looks set to get better and better with age.

Sunderland Transfer News: Bid Made For £3.4m-Rated Striker

Sunderland target Ellis Simms’ future will be decided “in the next few days”, according to reliable journalist Alan Myers.

What's the latest Sunderland transfer news on Ellis Simms?

The Black Cats are sure to be busy once again this summer as they look to build on last season’s impressive surge into the Championship playoffs, which ultimately ended in heartbreak but certainly showed plenty of positive signs.

Jobe Bellingham, Luis Semedo and Nectarios Triantis have all arrived at the Stadium of Light already less than a week after the transfer window officially opened, but more goalscoring prowess is required given Semedo’s inexperience in senior football.

Birmingham midfielder Jobe Bellingham.

And that’s where Everton’s Simms could come in, with reports last week confirming Sunderland are interested in bringing their former loanee back to the club for the 2023/24 campaign.

That update revealed there is rival interest from Ipswich Town though, and the latest news from Myers reveals there is another unnamed suitor in the mix as well.

"Three clubs have made their interest known in Ellis Simms, no bid accepted at this point but a decision expected in the next few days,” the journalist said on Twitter.

He then responded to a fan question to say he believes both the Black Cats and Tractor Boys have made a bid, but the third team in the mix is a mystery.

Is Simms good enough to lead the line?

Tony Mowbray will no doubt be desperate to bring Simms back to the club, given the impact the 22 year-old made last time around in the Northeast, bagging seven goals in just 17 second-tier appearances.

That goalscoring prowess is no fluke either, as the Everton youngster previously struck ten in 24 during a spell at Blackpool and seven in 21 for Hearts, even bagging against Chelsea in the Premier League this season, leading Sky Sports pundit Karen Carney to call his finishing ability “unbelievable”.

With just 12 months left on his contract and valued at around £3.4m, Simms really needs to be finding himself a permanent home after three different loan teams away from the Toffees, and he will surely fancy his chances of nailing down the number nine spot on Wearside as he matures into a stronger and more experienced centre-forward.

Mushfiqur ruled out with hamstring injury

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has been sidelined for at least two weeks due to an injury to his left hamstring. He will miss the remainder of the ODI series and the three T20s against New Zealand, and is a doubtful starter for the two Tests that follow as well.Mushfiqur had pulled his hamstring while batting in the first ODI on Boxing Day, while diving to complete a single. He had later retired hurt on 42.In his place, wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan will make his ODI debut in Nelson on Thursday. He was travelling alongside the ODI squad, as part of the extended preliminary squad that trained in Sydney earlier this month. The 23-year-old has played six T20s for Bangladesh, having made his debut in January this year.Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha said the Bangladesh set-up expects Mushfiqur to recover earlier than expected, which will allow him to play the Tests that begin on January 12. He also said they have confidence in Hasan’s ability with the bat, expecting him to fit into the lower-middle order.”At this stage Mushfiq is out for two weeks,” Hathurusingha said. “But he is recovering well. I saw him in the pool today. You know Mushfiq, he is very driven and thorough in his preparation. I am sure he will do the same thing with his injury. He will be ready sooner than we think.”If Mushfiqur was here, we would have had more options in selection. [Hasan] is coming in, and he is capable as anyone with the bat. He hasn’t played much international cricket but we are confident he can do a job.”Hasan will become only the 12th wicketkeeper to make his ODI debut for Bangladesh, and the fifth to replace Mushfiqur since his debut in 2006. The others were Dhiman Ghosh, Jahurul Islam, Anamul Haque and Liton Das.
