Fabinho and Shaqiri reply to Firmino’s Copa America snap

[ad_pod ]

While some players have the luxury of enjoying the sun and the seaside after a long season, others are still hard at work defending their national team’s colours.

Roberto Firmino and Brazil are already tearing it up in this year’s iteration of Copa America, and Liverpool’s ace has already registered two wins and a draw to top the group.

In their latest bout, Firmino scored one of his signature no-look goals as the Selecao strolled past Peru with five goals to nil. The Brazilian shared a snap on

/BzB3Z4TlTmc/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram after they won the group.

Firmino posted a motivational message to go along with the image, and soon enough, his friends and teammates responded, showering the 27-year-old forward with praise.

Fabinho was first to the scene and simply told Firmino that there’s no one quite like him, calling him different than the rest.

Reds fans will particularly love Fabinho’s comment, considering from as far back as 2016 the Anfield faithful have enjoyed how “weird” the man they call “Bobby” truly is.

Xherdan Shaqiri also shared a reply of support after the impressive Brazil victory.

Liverpool have made the right decision with Camacho

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

On Thursday night it was announced that Liverpool would be losing a bright young talent in Rafael Camacho.

The forward will now continue his career at Sporting Lisbon, but despite all the potential he may have, the Reds have certainly made the right decision with this one.

What’s the story then?

For the past few weeks it has been speculated that Camacho would be leaving Anfield this summer, but now his destination has been confirmed.

Liverpool have negotiated a good deal for the youngster. They will receive an initial £5m, while the deal also includes a 20 per cent sell-on fee as well as a buy-back clause.

Making the right choice

Although some fans were disappointed at the news of the teenager’s departure, they should rethink their stance.

The 5 ft 9 Portuguese made just one league appearance for the Reds, and after that outing, he took to Instagram to complain that he was being played out of position.

Jurgen Klopp has earned the right never to be undermined by any member of his squad, even more so by a 19-year-old who had only just made their debut.

The last thing the European champions need is someone rocking the boat, and it seemed that Camacho would have done that.

His goalscoring record at youth level is decent as he scored eight in 14 in PL2 last season. But a prolific record at PL2 level doesn’t mean that he deserves a spot in arguably the most talented frontline in the world.

Camacho was unwilling to bide his time, and he made it known he was unhappy with the way he was being utilised. Perhaps he will be a top player one day when he matures, and if that comes to fruition Liverpool can trigger their buy-back clause, but for now, getting rid of the problematic teen is probably the best thing for Klopp’s side.

Liverpool fans discuss Manchester City’s club-record capture of Rodri

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Liverpool fans have been discussing Manchester City’s club-record capture of Spain international Rodri from Atletico Madrid.

The 23-year-old cost the Citizens £62.8m, a deal which surpasses the previous record transfer of £60m which was enough to bring Riyad Mahrez to the Etihad Stadium last summer.

Given the fact that Liverpool and City could be the ones vying for the Premier League title yet again next year – the Reds finished 25 points ahead of third-placed Chelsea last term – the big-money transfer has caught the attention of some fans of the Merseyside club.

They have been busy discussing how City are strengthening what is already a gargantuan squad, whilst they watch their own club make few moves in the market – Liverpool surely simply can’t afford to stand still when the champions keep getting stronger.

Rodri appears to have been signed as a replacement for the ageing Fernandinho, and it is safe to say that it’s admirable how City actively go out and solve problem positions before they have even allowed them to become an issue.

Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about the Rodri deal…

Wolves fans divided after Joelinton transfer speculation

[ad_pod ]

According to journalist Tim Spiers on Twitter, Wolves are big fans of Hoffenheim striker Joelinton.

Reports first emerged via Kicker that the club were interested in the striker before it was then confirmed by Spiers.

The Brazilian had previously attracted the interest of Newcastle this summer as The Mirror claimed he could be worth around £30m. The Northern Echo then suggested it may take as much as £40m to sign him.

Spiers made reference to these two potential fees but they had supporters of Wolves divided over whether they should be paying so much for him.

One fan said the club needed to stop faffing about whilst another suggested it was frustrating if they were waiting for something cheaper.

However, there was also a sceptical reaction surrounding their interest. One individual claimed that £30m would be ridiculous for a player with the statistics he boasts, urging Wolves to move onto another target. A further fan urged for patience.

Joeltinon scored 11 goals in all competitions last term, netting seven of them in the Bundesliga. The 22-year-old, who can also play on the wing, picked up nine assists as well.

Here’s the best of the debate.

Manchester United fans react to fresh Nikola Milenkovic approach

[ad_pod ]

As the club continue to chase a deal for Leicester’s Harry Maguire, Manchester United continue to be linked with a host of names to solve their issues at centre-back.

One man who was firmly on the United radar in the January transfer window was Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic, but the Red Devils could not get a deal done for the Serbian.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio though, United made an enquiry for the giant 6 foot 5 defender earlier this week as they look to revive their January interest.

After hearing that the club were seemingly back in for the towering Serbia international, United fans took to Twitter to voice their opinion on the transfer target.

Many Red Devils supporters threw their backing behind a potential move for the 21-year-old and suggested that he was a far better option than Maguire; indeed, a few even compared Milenkovic to United legend and fellow Serbian Nemanja Vidic.

Others however were slightly more reluctant to see the club splash out on the defender and even raised the possibility that their interest in Milenkovic could be a “smokescreen” to try and “force Leicester’s hand for Maguire”.

Leeds star Mateusz Klich’s turnaround summed up by Noel Whelan

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to Football Insider, Noel Whelan has had his say on Mateusz Klich, urging Leeds to keep hold of one of their star men.

What’s he said?

Klich has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, attracting the interest of Burnley in recent times as a number of Leeds’ key men are linked away.

Both Kalvin Phillips and Kemar Roofe have also caught the eye of the top-flight but it remains to be seen whether the Whites can keep hold of them.

A part of the squad have been in Australia over the past week for games against Manchester United and Western Sydney Wanderers but Klich was one of the players to stay behind.

Yet, amid transfer speculation, Whelan has told Leeds to keep hold of the Pole, telling Football Insider:

“He was nearly sold last year, he wasn’t in the plans of Marcelo Bielsa. It was only through injury he got his opportunity so he actually surprised everybody.

“The goals he scored last season, his performances were fantastic, he gives you that little bit of cutting edge going forward. I wouldn’t be looking to sell. He could be a player that’s invaluable to Leeds like Kalvin Phillips.”

Remarkable turnaround

A year ago it would have been extremely unlikely that these words would have been muttered, which is rather symbolic of the stunning turn in fortunes the 29-year-old has experienced.

After arriving at Leeds in 2017, he struggled to get into the side, starting just once before being loaned out to FC Utrecht.

In the Netherlands, he played 16 times whilst having a hand in three goals.

However, he could have been on the move permanently after that, being linked to Lech Poznan last summer.

Therefore, it’s rather incredible that Whelan is now sitting here suggesting that he could become invaluable to Leeds.

Indeed after last season, he is right to suggest that Marcelo Bielsa and Co must hold onto him.

This is a player who was imperative to the team last term, scoring ten times and also laying on nine goals for his teammates.

Selling to Burnley or any other potential suitor must be forgotten about.

Arsenal may be forced into transfer action as Everton ready Wilfried Zaha bid

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Everton are reportedly poised to make a bid for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, according to Sky Sports, which could force Premier League rivals Arsenal into action.

What’s the word then?

Zaha wants to leave Palace and test himself at a new club and Everton and Arsenal are the two sides to have shown interest.

The Gunners made a bid of £40m which was rejected by the south Londoners, and now the Toffees are expected to make a bid in the region of £60m plus a player for the ex-Manchester United man.

His preference is to remain in London and sign for Arsenal, but he is willing to move back to the North-West despite an unsuccessful spell under David Moyes in Manchester during the 2013-14 campaign.

Crystal Palace are understood to value their asset at £80m.

Everton bid forces Arsenal’s hands

Everton’s bid suggests there’s competition for Arsenal that they didn’t have before, and while the extra demand should make it harder for the Gunners to secure their man, there’s another perspective to this which is far more positive.

It’s surprising enough as it is that thus far no other club has come to tempt Palace to selling their star man until the Everton interest. Arsenal may have been resting on their laurels, and now have no choice but to make a quick decision on how they want to persist with the Zaha transfer.

They seem reluctant to match Palace’s valuation of £80m with the reported limited budget they have, though Kaveh Solhekol at Sky Sports News believes this is a “smokescreen”.

Check out 4 things Unai Emery got wrong in his first season at Arsenal in the video below…

This will now start to truly unveil the nature of the Gunners’ financial mite as they’re to be forced into a decision: do you have the money or not? If the answer is ultimately “no”, then other targets can be approached. Likewise, the answer may be “yes”, but the follow-up question regards whether the majority of the budget should be spent on one winger when “three or four” players need to be recruited this summer, according to Unai Emery himself.

Clarity is yet to be reached here, no one quite knows what Arsenal’s transfer strategy is and how they’ll respond to Everton’s move for Zaha. However, they’ll now be forced to decide whether the winger really is the ‘number one’ target they’re seeking, or whether spreading the fees over deals for Kieran Tierney, Everton Soares and other linked players might be a better use of the cash.

Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet shares heartfelt message with fans after exit confirmed

[ad_pod ]

Simon Mignolet has now officially completed a permanent transfer to Club Brugge after a six-year spell with Liverpool.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper has had a great run with the Reds, totalling 204 games for the team and getting that Champions League winner’s medal at the very end.

Now, he will return to his homeland in Belgium where he will continue his career.

[ad_pod ]

But he did not leave without saying goodbye.

Shortly after the transfer was confirmed by the Reds, Mignolet took to social media and

/B0x8nx4AJs6/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram to share a heartfelt message to all of the fans.

Mignolet arrived at Anfield back in the summer of 2013 from Sunderland and had immediately enjoyed an impressive maiden season between the sticks under the watchful eye of Brendan Rodgers, who was in charge at that time.

The Champions League trophy in 2019, however, ended up being his first and last title with Liverpool as the Reds narrowly missed out on the Community Shield crown in the match against Manchester City

Mignolet spent that game on the bench throughout the whole 90 minutes and the penalty shootout afterwards.

Rangers fans react as Jon Flanagan makes excellent return

[ad_pod ]

Jon Flanagan made his return from injury in Rangers’ impressive 4-2 win away at FC Midtjylland on Thursday night.

Rangers fans were delighted to see Flanagan back in the starting XI for their Europa League qualifier and it’s safe to say he didn’t disappoint.

It was a hectic 90 minutes that saw Steven Gerrard’s men earn a great advantage ahead of the return leg at Ibrox next week. Goals from Alfredo Morelos, Joe Aribo, Nikola Katic and Scott Arfield gave the Gers a more than handy lead in the penultimate round before the group stages.

Flanagan was making his first start of the season after a groin injury kept him out for pre-season, and he caught the eye of the supporters.

The former Liverpool full-back filled in on the left-hand side of defence as Borna Barisic dropped out after starting the season woefully.

The 26-year-old’s no-nonsense, physical style has enamoured him to the fans, not just against the Danes but throughout his time in the Light Blue jersey.

Here’s what the supporters had to say about his return on Twitter…

Arsenal fans not overly impressed with Joe Willock’s performance against Newcastle

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal got their season off to a good start on Sunday as they beat Newcastle 1-0 at St. James’ Park.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the only goal of the game for the Gunners who, despite not putting in a stellar performance, were able to get the job done and come away with all three points.

Unai Emery started with three academy products in his lineup, one of which was Joe Willock. The 19-year-old has so far made 18 appearances for the Emirates outfit, scoring three goals.

Against the Toon, he played as part of a three behind Aubameyang in attack, and was replaced in the 64th minute by on-loan Real Madrid player Dani Ceballos.

And during just his second ever start in the Premier League, the club’s fans were not overly impressed with his performance. They seemingly expect a lot more from him going forward and took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the teenager.
