Wolves could find new Traore in Danjuma

With Nuno Santo no longer the manager of Wolves, you have to fear over the future of a number of their best players.

Ruben Neves has been linked with a £35m exit with Liverpool circling like a ravenous shark in warm waters.

However, Adama Traore could also leave. He’s been linked with an exit in recent months with a contract standoff clouding doubt on his time in the Midlands.

On the chalkboard

Traore only scored twice for Wolves this season but he still remains one of the most devastating players in the Premier League.

His end product has been questionable this term but he was nothing short of outstanding during the 2019/20 campaign, quashing doubts over his offensive numbers.

The Spain international provided nine assists and scored four goals in the top-flight, taking a number of defenders to the cleaners.

This season has been different with just the four goal involvements but he’s still recorded more dribbles (153) in the Premier League than any other player.

If the Spaniard did leave then Wolves should look towards signing Bournemouth winger Arnaut Danjuma.

According to Football League World, the Old Gold are battling Everton and West Ham to sign the Dutchman this summer.

Danjuma was one of the most dangerous attackers in the Championship this campaign, scoring 17 times and providing eight assists for his teammates.

Hailed as “outstanding” by Cherries boss Jonathan Woodgate, the winger’s dribbling and ability to beat a man is top-class.

During the course of the season, Danjuma managed 1.8 dribbles per game. That tally doesn’t come close to Traore’s 4.1 per outing but it’s the same number that Pedro Neto averaged.

That gives you a glimpse of the type of player he is and shows how he can make up for the shortfall of their tricky Spaniard potentially departing.

He may even provide more danger to opposition defences. After all, Danjuma scored the same number of goals this term as Traore has netted in his entire senior career.

Gers fans livid at demotion news

Glasgow Rangers fans are livid after a Gers-supporting policeman was demoted due to a joke he made about the club’s title celebrations.

This past term was a fantastic campaign for the Ibrox outfit. They won their first major trophy in 10 years as they lifted the Premiership title, and they even went the league season unbeaten (BBC).

As they received the trophy at their home stadium after beating Aberdeen on the final day of the season, thousands of Gers supporters took to the streets to celebrate.

There were some ugly scenes in George Square – 20 fans were arrested on the day (firstpost.com) – but the celebrations were generally peaceful. However, the police are continuing to investigate the scenes, and have now demoted a Rangers-supporting policeman after he made a joke on Twitter.

The news was shared on the social media platform by The Scottish Sun, and it attracted plenty of anger from the Rangers supporters. They took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Serie A expert backs Omar Colley for Leeds move - Exclusive

Serie A expert Conor Clancy believes that Leeds United target Omar Colley would be a fine partner for Diego Llorente at Elland Road.

Leeds have been linked with a potential swoop for the Sampdoria defender by reports in Italy.

Colley has been with Sampdoria since 2018 and has made a total of 85 appearances for the club since his move from Genk.

Clancy, who is the editor-in-chief at Forza Italian Football, claims that Colley initially struggled during his time in Serie A, but that the presence of Maya Yoshida, the former Southampton defender, has seen him settle nicely into his role.

And, as a result, he believes that he would be a good partner for Llorente at Elland Road in the coming months.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, he said: “I don’t think he’d be starting ahead of him but he might be a good partner to Llorente.

“With Sampdoria, he really, really struggled, but with Maya Yoshida beside him, he’s looked a much better player.

“I think you can put that down to Yoshida just being that calming presence, that person who’s able to talk him through games a little bit.”

Colley is a Gambia international and reports last month claimed that he would cost around €13m (£11.1m) to snaffle away from the Serie A side.

Liverpool fans bemoan Gini Wijnaldum exit

A number of Liverpool supporters have been bemoaning Gini Wijnaldum’s Reds exit, following his excellent performance for the Netherlands at Euro 2020.

The Dutchman will depart Anfield for Paris Saint-Germain this summer, bringing an end to a wonderful Liverpool career.

Wijnaldum has spent five seasons on Merseyside, winning both the Champions League and Premier League, as well as being one of the most unsung players at the club.

The 30-year-old’s ability to knit things together in the middle of the park has always been underrated by many, but he has played a major role in the Reds’ success under Jurgen Klopp.

On Sunday night, Wijnaldum scored and played superbly in the Netherlands’ 3-2 win over Ukraine at the Euros, excelling in a more attack-minded role.

His performance was a further reminder of what a top-quality player Liverpool are letting go, having decided not to give him the type of long-term contract that he wanted.

Pundit claims it’s a blow for Leeds to miss out on Perraud

Marcelo Bielsa has identified left-back as a key area to improve this summer with Stuart Dallas being deployed as a centre midfielder last season and Ezgjan Alioski yet to sign a new deal.

Someone they could be set to miss out on is Romain Perraud and former Leeds midfielder David Norris believes that it will be a huge blow for the club.

Leeds appeared to be leading the chase for the full-back, however now Southampton appear to be favourites for the French full-back having reportedly agreed personal terms with Perraud leaving him on the brink of making the switch to the Premier League at St Mary’s.

Perraud has performed well for Stade Brestois and he helped his club fight off relegation for the second successive season, being named in France Football’s Ligue 1 Team of the Season as a result, but now could be the right time for their promising 23-year old to move onto bigger things.

With both clubs eager for a new left-back this summer it appeared to be a straight shoot-out between Leeds and Southampton with the latter winning, something that will come as a huge blow to Bielsa, according to Norris, whos spoke exclusively to Transfer Tavern:

“I think once it’s out that Leeds are going for a player that normally means they’ve done their background work and it won’t just be an off the cuff one. So, having put in that amount of effort to make it known they’re going for a player, only to lose him will be a blow.

“It’s clearly a position they’re looking to reinforce. So I think it will be a little bit of a blow especially him going to Southampton over Leeds, it will be a blow but I’m sure they’ll have other targets lined up.”

Perraud would have ticked one box immediately at Leeds this summer with the transfer window only opening this week, however, they could well be on the back foot with other targets now.

The fact that Marcelo Bielsa wants to bring in a new left-back that could signal the end of Alioski’s Leeds career and that he sees Dallas’ long term future in the centre of midfield.

Wolves must act quickly on Roman Yaremchuk

Wolves may have their work cut out this summer as they strive to get back on track after a dismal campaign that saw them finish in 13th place.Nuno Santo failed to engineer a top-half place and then left his job over limited finances. On the chalkboardAs a result, Bruno Lage may have his work cut out in the transfer window. Aston Villa: Fans react to John Percy claim

Aston Villa have been extremely busy in the transfer market already, and Dean Smith now wants to add to his coaching ranks.

According to The Telegraph’s John Percy, Smith is looking to strengthen his backroom team this summer with a specialist set-piece coach.

And, as to be expected, a number of Villa supporters have been reacting to Percy’s claim on social media.

Villa are aiming to sign set-piece specialist James Ward-Prowse from Southampton prior to the start of pre-season, so should a move materialise for the Saints midfielder, he could end up benefiting from a set-piece coach.

Smith’s side scored 20% of their goals last season from set-pieces, but it seems as if he wants to improve on that going forward and perhaps defending them as well.

It’s not the first time the Villa manager has looked at a set-piece coach during his tenure at Villa Park. Back in 2018, Smith was considering one after seeing the benefits at former side Brentford.

@villareport shared the news on Smith’s backroom staff plans on Twitter on Tuesday evening. This is what these Villa fans had to say in reply, with many sharing their positive thoughts.

Leeds keen on signing Junior Firpo

Leeds United are interested in signing Barcelona defender Junior Firpo this summer as their search for a new left-back continues.

The Lowdown: Leeds look for new left-back

Marcelo Bielsa will be eyeing up reinforcements throughout his squad in the summer transfer window, but left-back could be a priority position for the manager.

With Ezgjan Alioski’s future very much up in the air, additions in that area could be essential as Leeds look to continue their current rise.

The Latest: Whites interested in signing Firpo

According to The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth, the Whites are keen on bringing Firpo to the club, with the Spaniard being described as a ‘strong candidate’ at left-back. A number of other clubs are also interested in signing the 24-year-old, though, with Napoli mentioned in the report.

Firpo made just seven appearances for Barca in La Liga last season, struggling to oust first-choice left-back Jordi Alba from the starting lineup (Transfermarkt).

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-6/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Verdict: Exciting left-back option

Firpo seems to be an ideal option for Leeds, given his age and style of play, with his peak years not likely to arrive for a while.

The Spaniard enjoyed an 89.7& pass completion rate in the league last season, which suggest that he could thrive in Bielsa’s possession-based system. Admittedly he wasn’t always tested defensively at Barca – he only averaged 0.1 tackles per game – but his tally of 1.8 for Real Betis in 2018/19 suggests he can thrive in that area when required.

Leeds could do a lot worse than considering a move for Firpo, who may want a move to a club where he might enjoy more regular game-time.

Rangers handed Joey Veerman boost

Rangers’ hopes of signing Joey Veerman this summer have been handed a boost after he opened the door to a move abroad following PSV Eindhoven’s decision to pull out of the race to sign him, which should put Steven Gerrard’s side amongst the favourites to land him from Heerenveen ahead of next season.

The 22-year-old has been linked with the likes of Rangers, PSV and Atalanta in recent months, but a move to the Eredivisie giants no longer seems to be on the cards after they signed Davy Propper from Brighton recently. Also, the Serie A club are set to complete a £17m deal for Teun Koopmeiners, which may quell their interest in the Ibrox target.

Veerman shared his disappointment at PSV’s preference for Propper, saying: “It’s just what kind of club comes along. I think it will be very difficult in the Netherlands, so there’s only one thing to do.

“As it looks now, I’m still at Heerenveen and I’m doing my best and nothing else is going on there.”

It has been previously reported that Veerman would cost Rangers £8.5m this summer, but given his superb performances in the Eredivisie in the last two seasons, he could add the Champions League quality that Gerrard needs ahead of their return to Europe’s elite club competition next term.

Former Rangers striker Michael Mols was full of praise for him when the links to Gerrard’s side first emerged, saying: “He is perfect with the ball and in possession, he’s a really great player. His passing and movement with the ball is really relaxed in a good way.”

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-rangers-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Rangers transfer rumours and news!”]

Last season saw the 22-year-old contribute an impressive seven goals and 10 assists in just 31 Eredivisie appearances, earning a superb 7.40 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

Given that the majority of Rangers’ goals last season came from their strikers, wingers and James Tavernier, a potent midfielder could be exactly what Gerrard needs to ensure that his side retains the Premiership title next season.

[freshpress-quiz id=“593776″]

Although Veerman will be an pricey option for the Gers, sporting director Ross Wilson should take advantage of PSV Eindhoven backing out and work quickly to bring Veerman to Ibrox this summer, as he could prove to be a superb addition in both the short- and long-term.

Liverpool fans hail Jordan Henderson tweet

A number of Liverpool supporters have been hailing Jordan Henderson, following a wonderful post on social media during England duty.

The 31-year-old has enjoyed a superb Reds career, overcoming a tough start to eventually become a modern-day legend at Anfield.

Henderson has lifted both the Premier League and Champions League, arguably proving to be one of the best captains in the club’s great history.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359326”]

While the midfielder is adored for his leadership and footballing ability, he is also one of the most likeable, humble players around currently.

That has been summed up by his latest Twitter post on Wednesday, in which he showed his support for an England fan who was at Wembley for the Three Lions’ 2-0 win over Germany at Euro 2020.

Henderson beautifully stated that ‘no one should be afraid to go and support their club or country because football is for everyone no matter what’, in what was a touching gesture.
