A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to hit out at Mason Holgate for his first-half display against Aston Villa.

Carlo Ancelotti named the same side that beat Arsenal last time out – excluding James Rodriguez who was withdrawn in the warmup – with Holgate making his 23rd Premier League start of the campaign.

The 24-year-old, valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, has made over 100 appearances for the Toffees but made an early mistake at Goodison Park.

He lost the ball in a terrible area to Villa striker Ollie Watkins, with the latter punishing the Everton man to put the visitors in the lead.

Holgate has been the club’s eighth-best performer this season in the league prior to kick-off, as per WhoScored, recording an average Premier League match rating of 6.82/10, but his dawdling on the ball was cruelly punished by Watkins.

O meia Matheus Savio foi convocado novamente para a Seleção Brasileira sub-20. Depois de conquistar o Quadrangular de Seleções, em outubro, no Chile, o apoiador do Flamengo foi chamado pelo técnico Rogério Micale para dois amistosos contra o México, na casa do adversário, na próxima sexta e no domingo. Feliz pela oportunidade, Savio ressaltou o bom momento no Rubro-Negro e salientou a importância de uma boa participação para estar presente na lista do Sul-Americano Sub-20, em janeiro, no Chile.

– É sempre uma honra representar o meu país. Assim como na primeira convocação, vou para dar o meu melhor. Estou vivendo um grande momento pelo Flamengo, acabamos de ser campeões da OPG, e agora poder servir a Seleção novamente é um prazer imenso. Vou para somar, ajudar os companheiros e contribuir com o meu futebol nesses dois amistosos. O professor (Rogério) Micale é um excelente treinador, está sempre observando os atletas, e sabe quem está pronto para jogar o Sul-Americano. Espero agarrar essa oportunidade para poder engatar a terceira convocação e estar presente no torneio – disse.

É a segunda vez que Matheus Savio é convocado para a Seleção sub-20. Na primeira, ele disputou três jogos, foi titular no primeiro e no último (no segundo Micale escalou apenas reservas), e deu três assistências para gol, terminando como um dos destaques do Quadrangular de Seleções, no Chile. O atleta fez questão de reforçar o quanto trabalha para receber as oportunidades.

– Tudo isso é fruto de muito trabalho no decorrer do ano. Sempre dou o meu melhor nos treinos e nos jogos, me dedico muito dentro e fora de campo, e procuro aprender o máximo que posso a cada dia. Acredito que é esse o caminho para me tornar um jogador de sucesso tanto pelo Flamengo quanto pela Seleção Brasileira. Trabalho muito para conquistar o que quero, e por isso as oportunidades acabam aparecendo – garante.

Em 2016, Matheus Savio conquistou três títulos pelo sub-20 do Flamengo: Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, Taça Rio e Torneio Otávio Pinto Guimarães. O último veio na sexta passada, ao vencer o Vasco, por 3 a 1, em São Januário. Apesar de não ter marcado, ele iniciou a jogada de dois gols. Pelo profissional do Rubro-Negro, Savio disputou nove jogos e marcou quatro gols, todos no ano passado.

Kris Commons has strongly criticised wantaway Celtic duo Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer, arguing that the club ought to have sold the ‘demotivated’ pair last summer.

The Hoops’ dismal season took yet another wretched turn on Sunday as they were thumped 4-1 by arch-rivals Rangers at Ibrox. With two games to go, they trail Steven Gerrard’s side by 23 points in the Premiership.

How did Edouard and Ajer play against Rangers?

Edouard equalised for Celtic in the first half with a header from close range, before Alfredo Morelos swiftly restored Rangers’ lead. Two further goals in the second half compounded the misery for John Kennedy’s side.

Daily Record journalist Gordon Parks awarded Edouard a team-high rating of seven out of 10 for his performance, writing that his ‘appetite for the occasion wasn’t in question’ and that he ‘refused to give up the ghost despite being drip served decent service’.

It has been reported that the Frenchman, who has now scored 20 goals this season, is intent upon leaving the club regardless of whom they appoint as Neil Lennon’s successor.

Ajer is also reported to have his eyes on the exit door. The centre-half provided a knock-down assist for Edouard’s goal but Parks accused him of ‘dereliction in duty’ after he ducked out of the way of Morelos’ subsequent shot.

What did Commons have to say about Edouard and Ajer?

Former Celtic player Commons wrote that ‘an improvement in the attitude and performances’ of Edouard and Ajer was expected after Lennon’s departure, adding that Celtic’s ‘unhealthy obsession’ with winning 10 titles in a row has led to them retaining players who ‘felt like they were doing a Celtic a favour’.

“The problem lies squarely with these players who have their own agendas and prioritised them ahead of the club,” he wrote in the Daily Mail print edition, via Daily Record.

“The unhealthy obsession with 10 In A Row is at the heart of it.

“Celtic felt compelled to hold onto a select few players who were already plotting their own exit.

“They should never have entertained the idea of having to coax these players into giving the club ‘one more year’.

“As soon as a player expresses a desire to leave, as Lennon made clear after the Ferencvaros game last August, the club should be phoning them a taxi to the airport.

“These players felt like they were doing a Celtic favour by hanging around.

“They have lost all motivation and it has been the club and the supporters who have suffered for it.”

Transfer Tavern verdict

There’s an added layer here in that Celtic have also allowed both players name-checked by Commons to reach the final year of their respective contracts. That means they won’t be able to maximise the fees for £13.5m-rated Edouard and £3.6m-rated Ajer.

That could make the task of replacing them with players of similar quality all the more difficult. Commons may have a point in wondering whether their hearts are truly in it at Celtic, but the practicality of sorting their futures seems trickier than the theory.

A number of Wolves supporters have been hailing Vitinha’s performance in the 1-1 draw away to West Brom on Monday night.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team were hoping for a rare positive outing in what has been a frustrating season as they headed to The Hawthorns for the Black Country derby.

Wolves could only pick up a point against their struggling rivals, though, with Fabio Silva and Mbaye Diagne exchanging goals.

It wasn’t exactly a vintage performance from Nuno’s men, who would have been hoping for a win against a team who have been towards the bottom of the table all season.

One player who stood out for Wolves, though, was Vitinha, having been handed just his third start in the Premier League in 2020/21. As per Sofascore, the 21-year-old found a team-mate with 54 of his 60 passes, won six duels and completed three dribbles, while he was also involved in the move which led to Silva’s opener and named as Sky Sports’ man of the match.

Quanto mais velho o jogador, menor sua frequência em jogos na temporada. Essa é a trajetória normal no mundo do futebol. Mas para um jogador em especial, as coisas tomaram um caminho inverso.

Mesmo aos 37 anos, o volante Renato é o único jogador do Santos a disputar todas as 34 rodadas do Brasileirão. O camisa 8 supera até mesmo o goleiro Vanderlei, que foi desfalque em uma partida por conta de expulsão diante do América-MG. O experiente volante do Peixe destaca o feito e credita sua presença nos jogos à pré-temporada feita em janeiro.

– Sempre falei sobre a pré-temporada. Ano passado foi o primeiro ano que eu consegui fazer uma boa, nos outros anos ficava duas semanas pro Estadual, e a preparação física é prejudicada. Passando dos 30, é preciso cuidado maior e eu tenho desde que voltei do Sevilla. Pré-temporada é base de tudo. É em virtude dela e do preventivo que eu faço antes dos treinamentos que eu joguei todas no campeonato. É também escolha do Dorival, eu evito estar fora principalmente pelos cartões, é um número baixo três cartões, é normal desfalcar. Então procuro estar sempre à disposição para ajudar. Mas se eu tiver que ficar fora, eu incentivo. É opção do treinador. Fico feliz por jogar todas – disse, em entrevista coletiva.

Com contrato válido até o fim da próxima temporada, Renato ainda não pensa em aposentadoria e admite que já existe um pré-acordo para renovação por mais um ano. Mesmo assim, ele mantém cautela quanto à permanência no clube por conta das eleições marcadas para o fim de 2017.

– Tenho contrato até dezembro (de 2017). A todo ano procuro sentar com a família, nunca tomo decisão sozinho. Me sinto bem, tenho prorrogação já para 2018, é uma coisa que eu quero. Não vou querer pendurar as chuteiras. Vou querer prorrogar, mas depende também do Santos. É ano de eleição, não sei quem vai estar. Espero que Dorival esteja. Quando treinador tem sequência as coisas acontecem. Quero ajudar o Santos por mais um ano e depois vamos ver com a família sobre a decisão.

O sucesso do time sub-20 faz o São Paulo se movimentar nos bastidores para manter os principais destaques. Nesta sexta-feira, por exemplo, o clube espera renovar o contrato do lateral-direito Foguete por até duas temporadas. Depois, concentrará as ações para exercer a prioridade de compra do lateral-esquerdo Júnior e do meia Shaylon, que estão emprestados.

Foguete já pertence ao Tricolor, mas tem contrato apenas até 27 de janeiro do próximo ano. Como brigou muito para tê-lo nas categorias de base, o clube correu para não perdê-lo logo após a formação e o espera já nesta sexta no CT da Barra Funda para assinar renovação por duas temporadas. O vice-presidente de futebol José Alexandre Médicis, o diretor-executivo Marco Aurélio Cunha e o gerente-executivo de Cotia, Rodolfo Canavesi, cuidam da negociação.

Em seguida, Foguete será analisado por Rogério Ceni, que dará o aval sobre o destino do lateral. Se o Mito quiser, o jovem já será integrado ao elenco profissional. Caso contrário, será emprestado e o Osasco Audax surge como interessado como parte da transação do goleiro Sidão para o Tricolor – outros dois ou três garotos também devem ser envolvidos.

As situações de Júnior e Shaylon exigem menos pressa, já que o São Paulo tem prioridade de compra junto a Grêmio e Chapecoense, respectivamente. O primeiro está emprestado até 31 de dezembro e deve ter 50% dos direitos econômicos comprados por R$ 500 mil. Pelo mesmo valor, o Tricolor espera ficar com 60% dos direitos do armador, emprestado até 31 de janeiro e com mais uma Copa São Paulo de Juniores a disputar.

Júnior e Foguete fazem parte da geração nascida em 1996, considerada a mais vitoriosa da base são-paulina nos últimos anos. Mais de uma dezena de atletas ultrapassará os 20 anos em 2017 e não poderá atuar mais nas categorias inferiores. Assim, a diretoria tentará encaixá-los no elenco principal ou emprestá-los para buscar experiência.

O zagueiro Iago Maidana, por exemplo, já está acertado com o São Bernardo para a disputa do Campeonato Paulista. E há ainda a possibilidade de uma parceria com a Portuguesa Santista, que subiu para a Série A3 do Estadual.

Na última quinta-feira, o time sub-20 venceu o Bahia por 3 a 1 no Morumbi e ficou perto do título da Copa do Brasil da categoria. O jogo de volta será na próxima quinta, em Salvador. No domingo, em Cotia, a equipe faz a primeira partida da final do Paulistão, contra o Capivariano. Neste ano, os comandados de André Jardine já faturaram a Libertadores e a Copa Ouro. Em 2015, foram três títulos: Copa Ouro, Copa do Brasil e Copa RS.

West Ham United’s chances of qualifying for Europe were dealt a devastating blow as they were defeated by fellow hopefuls Everton at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Irons boss David Moyes will rue his side’s ineffectiveness in front of goal as the misfiring Londoners could’ve easily snatched something from the game considering they were only beaten by the solitary goal.

With all of the Hammers’ attacking options on the pitch, they really should’ve mustered up more of a threat in front of goal, especially as they dominated possession (68%).

Moyes was dealt an early injury setback in the first half which saw Manuel Lanzini forced off just before the break.

He was replaced by Jarrod Bowen, who was snubbed from the starting XI for the second successive game, so he surely had a point to prove to his manager.

However, he offered West Ham absolutely nothing in attack and as a result, he was graded amongst their worst performers (6.4) as per SofaScore ratings.

The Evening Standard’s Jack Rosser added further weight to this argument in his post-game column, where he claimed the former Hull City winger “made very little impact” from the bench and similarly, football.london suggested that he “missed a glorious chance to make it 1-1.”

Aside from that one golden opportunity, Bowen struggled to assert his dominance on the Toffees’ back four, registering only 26 touches – the same number goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski managed throughout the game.

To make matters worse, the Polish shot-stopper made more passes (13) than the 24-year-old (ten), too, and that only goes to show how fruitless he was in the 47 minutes he was on the pitch.

His one shot off target resulted in one big chance missed, whilst he was caught offside once and lost possession ten times – once every 4.7 minutes, and once every 2.6 touches, as per SofaScore.

Bowen’s struggle with the visitors was further seen by the fact that he won just 50% of his duels, with Lucas Digne and Michael Keane often getting the better of him on the day.

Considering it was only the second time this season that the £27m-rated attacker had been out of the starting XI in back-to-back matches, Moyes would have been expecting to see a reaction when subbed on but frustratingly, he may want to think again about his involvement in the coming matches.

Bowen was just one of many Irons stars to be unproductive but his place is most at risk compared to say, a Michail Antonio.

There are three very winnable games left remaining in Brighton, relegated West Brom and Southampton but the likes of Bowen will need to vastly improve if the Hammers are to top off their fantastic season with European qualification.

يؤكد النجم الإيطالي باولو مالديني، مدير نادي ميلان، أن محادثات برشلونة مع فرانك كيسي لاعب الروسونيري، أمر طبيعي، وعلّق على مستقبل زلاتان إبراهيموفيتش.

قال زلاتان إبراهيموفيتش في نهاية الأسبوع إنه لن يعتزل حتى يفوز بشيء مع فريق ميلان، وسُئل مالديني عن محادثات تجديد عقد السويدي.

ورد مالديني في تصريحات نشرها موقع “فوتبول إيطاليا”: “إبراهيموفيتش بطبيعته يحب الفوز، لذا فمن الصواب أن يقول ذلك، نأمل أن نربح شيئًا وسيظل لديه مستقبل معنا، يجب أن ينصب تركيزه الرئيسي الآن على العودة إلى لياقته الكاملة”.

بينما كان مالديني يتحدث عن هذا، سار إبراهيموفيتش خلفه وربت على كتف المدير.
