Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi has joined Bundesliga outfit Mainz 05 on loan for the entirety of the 2019-20 campaign.

The Nigerian has been with the Reds since 2015 but has not yet made a single appearance for the Premier League club.

Indeed, the 21-year-old was immediately sent on loan to FSV Frankfurt upon his arrival at Anfield, whilst he has also turned out for NEC, Royal Excel Mouscron and Gent on loan during a well-travelled career.

Liverpool are not exactly full of options in the centre-forward position at the moment.

But the decision has been made to send Awoniyi on loan to Mainz, who finished 12th in the Bundesliga last season.

The Merseyside club’s fans have been on social media offering their views on the confirmed exit.

Yes. It does appear that a professional footballer failed to travel with the one thing that would allow him out of the country.

Wolves’ winger-turned-defender Adama Traore couldn’t travel with the team this week after forgetting his passport by instead bringing an ID card.

A number of the Molineux faithful took to Twitter to take a swipe at the 23-year-old.

Many blasted his lack of intelligence with one supporter stating that he’s always said Traore doesn’t have a brain and this incident proves it, whilst another added that this was the most Adama thing ever, calling him a bit dopey.

Others demanded that the Spaniard was heavily fined and one fan even wanted the club to ‘get rid’ of him.

Traore has been enjoying a decent pre-season at right wing-back for Nuno Santo’s side and in the Europa League second-round qualifying first-leg victory over Crusaders he assisted one of their two goals from that very position.

Though any doubts over his future involvement at the club were firmly put to bed by the Portuguese manager as he said Traore would join up with the squad for the next game – a Premier League opener against Leicester City.

It was a productive summer in the transfer market for Arsenal in the end.

The Gunners brought in Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Dani Ceballos, Nicolas Pepe, Kieran Tierney and David Luiz, despite having a reported initial transfer budget of just £45m.

One of the faces of the club, Josh Kroenke, has been talking about the reasons behind the difference in transfer policy, claiming the performance in the Europa League final, in which they lost 4-1 to Chelsea, caused the change in thinking.

“As the second half of the match unfolded, understanding the position we were in and some of the targets as we headed into the summer from a transfer standpoint, we had to rethink some of our strategy based on that last 45 minutes,” he said.

The 39-year-old spoke to BBC Sport about a number of subjects in an extensive interview.

Generally, the Kroenke name is not met with much positivity by the Arsenal fans, and Stan Kroenke in particular has often come under fire. However, it appears that the Gunners supporters are impressed with Josh, and have taken to Twitter to praise him following the interview.

وواصل: “كان عليّ أن أتبع أندي روبرتسون، آخر مرة فعلت نفس الأمر كان ضد آشلي كول في ستامفورد بريدج، إنه لاعب رائع وحاولت فرض الرقابة عليه”.

Whatever reason you believe why Pontus Jansson left Leeds, it’s hard to deny it wasn’t a mighty blow.

This is a defender who was a rock at the back for the Whites last season. So much so that he was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the Championship.

Executive Director Paul Bell claimed this summer that he was sold for financial fair play reasons but there was also the underlying issue of the player’s attitude.

Yet, as he faced off against his former employers on Wednesday night, certain segments of the Leeds fan base hoped he wouldn’t have abuse thrown in his direction.

It’s likely some supporters will still feel animosity towards the situation but that’s the nature of football.

Jansson was a player who Marcelo Bielsa rated as his best last term but in loaning Ben White, they’ve gone some way to finding someone to replace him, albeit for a year.

Before they met the Bees, White had completed 2.7 tackles per game whilst demonstrating his ball-playing abilities with a pass success rate of 85.6%.

Yet, there would have been one way to soften the impact of losing Jansson significantly.

Earlier last week, it was reported by Football Insider that Leeds had attempted to agree an obligation to buy with Brighton following the conclusion of White’s loan spell.

Leeds had already settled similar terms for Helder Costa, Jack Harrison and Illan Meslier this summer so it wasn’t new to the club’s hierarchy.

But try as they might, the Seagulls rejected it. Based on the performances he’s shown so far, it’s hardly a surprise.

Against Nottingham Forest he was imperious, making five tackles and three interceptions. If he continues to develop at the rate he’s shown in the opening weeks of the season, he’ll become a fine player.

He already has one quality that sets him apart from Jansson too according to Noel Whelan:

“He gives the ball and then gets back into his position. Even when there’s space there for him to drive into, he will, but then he’ll get back into his position. That, going back to Pontus Jansson, is something he wanted to do a little bit too much.”

At 21, his future may lie with a Premier League side. Perhaps if Leeds go up then they can try again for a permanent deal.

However, if they stay in the same division, they may end up ruing the fact they couldn’t see eye to eye with Brighton this summer.

White has already made up for Jansson departing in some senses, but this would have gone even further in lessening the knock of losing the Swede.

If people thought Eric Cantona’s famous way with words had waned over time, then he firmly shattered that myth with his unbelievable speech at the Champions League draw on Thursday.

The iconic Frenchman went full-on Cantona-mode when taking to the stage to collect his UEFA President’s Award, and left the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi looking as though they’d just seen a ghost.

The Manchester United legend began by quoting from William Shakespeare’s King Lear, then moved onto how science would make mankind immortal (at least that’s what it sounded like), before ending off in typical nonchalant fashion by declaring he simply loved football.

It was quite the speech from the man whose beard would give Russell Crowe’s a run for its money, and it understandably led to many United fans flooding to Twitter to share their thoughts about their former star.

Most Red Devils supporters simply hoped Cantona would “never change” and appeared to revel in the 53-year-old’s maverick ways.

Some United fans who clearly weren’t on the same wavelength as the Frenchman just revealed their disbelief with a series of amusing gifs and deadpan comments.

كشفت تقارير إخبارية عن وجود اهتمام كبير من طرف نادي ليفربول المنافس في بطولة الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز بضم لاعب وسط الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي أولمبيك ليون، حسام عوار، في الميركاتو الصيفي المقبل.

وارتبط عوار بالعديد من الأندية خلال شهر يناير الماضي على رأسهم آرسنال ومانشستر سيتي، ولكن في النهاية بقي مع أولمبيك ليون وتأجل حسم مستقبله بعد نهاية الموسم الحالي.
