Spurs cannot be distracted by Aurier’s fine displays

Tottenham Hotspur cannot be distracted by the performances of Serge Aurier.

The right-back has been named in the FIFPro Africa Best XI of 2019 and has actually been in fine form for the club.

No clues whatsoever: Which seasons do these iconic Spurs images belong to?

Since the appointment of Jose Mourinho as manager, he has played in every Premier League game.

In that time, he has averaged a WhoScored rating of 7.52 in the top-flight.

The 27-year-old has registered two assists in that time while averaging 3.77 tackles per game, 3.77 interceptions, 1.88 interceptions, 2.44 dribbles, and 0.77 key passes.

This is a defender who is clearly talented but one has to feel that his errors have begun to colour perceptions of his game, and he has been regularly criticised by some fans for his performances.

He was sent off against Southampton, conceded a penalty against Liverpool and was at fault for Chelsea’s first goal in Spurs’ defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And he is also the only right-back who is trusted. Kyle Walker-Peters has yet to play under Mourinho in the league and depth and competition is required.

This, of course, is not to suggest that millions should be spent on a ready-made replacement; there are potential acquisitions out there, in the vein of Norwich City’s Max Aarons or potentially OGC Nice’s Youcef Atal.

More than anything, though, there is no excuse to be inactive when it comes to buying reinforcements.

Strengthening from a position of strength is important for elite clubs and while Aurier has been in excellent form, he needs both help and competition.

It would potentially focus the Ivory Coast international and help to iron out the mistakes that have routinely been present in his game.

Be it in January or in the summer, Spurs need to get a right-back in and allow Jose Mourinho to pick between two options instead of merely relying on one.

Meanwhile, Spurs have received some bad news about Christian Eriksen.

Leeds signing Mor would be absolutely tone deaf from Orta and Radrizzani

Transfer rumours are coming in thick and fast as we head towards the mid-way point of the month.

One club that haven’t been exempt from these murmurs is Leeds United, and one rumour that has emerged recently hasn’t gone down too well with the fanbase.

Indeed, Turkish press have stated that Leeds are interested in Emre Mor, but that has left a few members of the fanbase far from happy due to the fact he has links to Galatasaray.

Anyone who knows Leeds United would know that signing anybody with connections to the Turkish club is an absolute no-go after two Leeds fans were murdered on an away trip to Istanbul 20 years ago.

It’s an incident that is still fresh in the memory of many supporters as the Elland Road faithful paid tribute to the two fans last season at one of their games.

This incident has led to a bitter hatred of Galatasaray that emanates throughout the fanbase, and they don’t take too kindly to any players that have links to the club.

There was absolute outrage when their former player Harry Kewell signed for the Istanbul outfit in the 2000s, and signing Mor has the chance of sparking a similar backlash.

The winger may only have played for the Turkish club for six months, but he is a boyhood fan, and the initial response on Twitter has been negative. Fans have stated that they wouldn’t accept the 22-year-old and that it wouldn’t go down well with the rest of the supporters which is completely understandable.

Signing a player with strong links to a club that is hated around the Yorkshire city would be absolutely tone-deaf from Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani, and it’s a move they shouldn’t even be considering.

In other news, Leeds fans have given up on signing one target after recent press conference comments.

Wolves close in on Nuno Santo’s new project Olympiacos winger Daniel Podence

According to the Express & Star, Wolves are in ongoing talks with Olympiacos to sign winger Daniel Podence before the transfer window slams shut in just over a week.

What’s the word?

It’s believed that Wolves are confident of getting a deal across the line before deadline day, although it remains to be seen if the move is permanent or temporary – or even a loan with an obligation to buy.

As per the source, the Greek giants are said to value the 24-year-old at around £21m while he is a client of Gestifute, run by the familiar super-agent Jorge Mendes.

Podence found the net against Wolves’ Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League earlier this season while in a total of 27 appearances this season he has scored and assisted five goals apiece in all competitions, via Transfermarkt.

Traore feels

The Portuguese native will add a versatile dimension to Wolves as he’s able to play anywhere along the front three, and he’ll have no problem settling in given the large contingent of compatriots at the club.

He will arrive with doubts of his own, but it is nothing that manager Nuno Santo can’t resolve.

It seems likely that he will provide backup to Adama Traore on the right flank, as Pedro Neto deputises for Diogo Jota on the other side, and the pair may have a few similarities – or at least had.

The Spaniard was often lamented for his lack of end product, as by comments from Danny Higginbotham here, but this campaign he’s been totally transformed having directly contributed to 14 goals in all competitions, ten more than last term.

Doubts over Podence’s ability in front of goal were first noted in a scout report from Outside of the Boot whilst he was still at Sporting Lisbon, where he failed to score in 40 first-team appearances.

His return has somewhat improved in Greece with 13 goals in 68 games, but the Superleague is in no way comparable to any of Europe’s elite divisions and certainly not the Premier League, so such question marks can rightfully carry over.

Call yourself a Wolves expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?

In addition, his strengths are also similar to Traore, as he also offers explosive pace that can make life very difficult for defences, as per AgonaSport’s scout report.

Traore’s transformation is most noted here after breaking the league’s dribbling records this season, so Nuno will be hoping that Podence can be his new project – one that can follow in the direct footsteps of the tricky right-winger.

Meanwhile, the January addition of this former Championship striker smacks of desperation from Wolves…

West Ham agree £16.9m deal for Tomas Soucek, according to Sam Inkersole

West Ham United will pay€20m (£16.9m) for Tomas Soucek should the midfielder complete a move to the London Stadium, according to Sam Inkersole. On Monday afternoon, Slavia Prague revealed that they had allowed Soucek to travel to London ahead of a potential switch to the Hammers. And when asked whether the 24-year-old would be arriving on loan or permanently, football.london journalist Inkersole revealed that a price of €20m (£16.9m) had been agreed between the two clubs on Monday.

Soucek came through the youth system at Slavia Prague and has turned out on 158 occasions for the Czech club in all competitions, scoring 40 times in the process.

A 25-time Czech Republic international, the holding midfielder featured in all six of his club’s Champions League group-stage matches this season, captaining the side home and away against both Inter Milan and Barcelona.

Did he really play for us?! No West Ham fan has managed to name all of these obscure Irons signings….

According to Inkersole, West Ham will pay just shy of £17m for Soucek should he complete a move before the end of the January window.

The journalist’s post on social media can be seen below:

Meanwhile, a number of West Ham supporters slammed the performance of this player in Saturday’s defeat to West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup.

West Ham fans react to Krzysztof Piatek transfer suggestion

According to Football Insider, West Ham United have made a £30m loan-to-buy offer for AC Milan forward Krzysztof Piatek.

The 24-year-old’s future at the San Siro has been the subject of a lot of discussion since the winter transfer window opened at the start of the month.

Football Insider claim that West Ham are now very much in the race for the centre-forward having offered to loan him for the remainder of the season before potentially completing a £30m move in this summer’s transfer window.

As expected, the transfer claim has caught the attention of the club’s fans and many have taken to social media to react to the suggestion.

Some are keen for the deal to go through before the end of the month.

Call yourself a West Ham expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?

Others, though, do not believe the transfer report and have laughed off suggestions that the Poland international, who has only scored four Serie A goals this term, could move to the London Stadium.

One supporter, meanwhile, referenced Simone Zaza when reacting to the claim. The 28-year-old joined West Ham on loan in August 2016 with the view to completing a permanent move the following summer; it never happened, though, and he left having failed to score in 11 appearances for the Premier League club.

Meanwhile, a number of West Ham fans have been reacting to a suggestion that this player could leave the London Stadium in the near future.

Tottenham want to sign Islam Slimani on deadline day, as per L’Equipe journalist

According to L’Equipe journalist Nabil Djellit on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Leicester City striker Islam Slimani before the transfer window slams shut on Friday night.

Djellit says that Spurs, along with Serie A giants Inter Milan, are keen to recruit the 31-year-old before the deadline, with Manchester United also making a tentative enquiry for the Foxes man.

Of course, the 31-year-old is actually currently on loan at Ligue 1 outfit Monaco, where he has scored seven goals and provided a further seven assists in 14 appearances in all competitions this term, although France Football, via Get French Football News, reported earlier this week that he had requested the temporary spell be ended early.

France Football reported that was because he was keen on a return to the Premier League with both Spurs and the Red Devils keen on him.

It remains to be seen whether his reported wish will be granted or not, but it appears as though Jose Mourinho’s men lead the chase for him when it comes to interested English clubs, as per Djellit.

No clues whatsoever: Which seasons do these iconic Spurs images belong to?

Slimani would at least bring some Premier League experience to the table for Spurs given his spell with Leicester, although he ultimately flopped at the King Power Stadium with his record standing at eight goals in 39 English top flight outings.

One to watch today, it seems.

Leeds should bring Illan Meslier into their starting XI

Leeds are well on their way to falling apart again.

The Whites have won just two of their last nine league games, and unless something changes, their spot in the top two will be in serious danger.

Marcelo Bielsa certainly needs to make a few adjustments, and his first port of call should be the goalkeeper position.

Indeed, the manager may want to drop a man who has started every single league game this term.

Casilla’s woes

One of Leeds’ worst performers over the past few weeks has been Kiko Casilla.

Watch Leeds United Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Spaniard conceded every shot on target he faced against Birmingham City last month, dropped a howler against Sheffield Wednesday in early January, and he was heavily criticised for his performance against Wigan on Saturday.

The goalkeeper’s form indicates that his spot should be in danger, and there is more than one reason for Bielsa to make the switch.

Bring in Meslier

Leeds may be forced into giving the rarely-seen Illan Meslier a chance in the coming weeks as Casilla is still staring a minimum six-game ban in the face, but perhaps Bielsa should make the change before it’s imposed upon him.

Giving the Frenchman an opportunity in the coming weeks seems like a good idea.

Casilla isn’t performing well, and it may also give Meslier the confidence boost he needs if he’s needed as a long-term number one should the former Real Madrid man be banned.

On top of this, it could be the wake-up call the current number one needs to rediscover the form that had fans waxing lyrical about him earlier this season.

It’s a no-lose situation, Meslier was incredibly impressive on his debut against Arsenal in the FA Cup as both sets of supporters praised him, and if he keeps up that form he’d certainly be an improvement on Casilla.

Meanwhile, it may be time for Marcelo Bielsa to revisit a tactic that worked very well against Arsenal.

Liverpool hope one connection can help them clinch Jadon Sancho

According to The Daily Mail, Liverpool have informed Borussia Dortmund of their desire to sign Jadon Sancho this summer, and they hope that Jurgen Klopp’s previous links with the club could give them the upper hand.

What’s the story

Sky Germany journalist Jesco von Eichmann has said that Jadon Sancho will “leave Dortmund this summer”, which is likely to lead to a mad race for his signature.

Can you name the result these iconic Liverpool images belong to? Give it a go now…

The Reds have now told Die Schwarzgelben that they want to take him to Anfield this summer, with the German club expected to demand at least £100m. Manchester City are also expected to make an offer, whilst Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United are all also keen.

The report adds that the Merseyside outfit “will hope manager Jurgen Klopp’s connections with Dortmund, who he led for seven years, will work in their favour in pursuit of the Londoner.”

Not always that simple

The link between Klopp and Dortmund is clear. As previously mentioned, the 52-year-old spent seven years at the Signal Iduna Park, winning two Bundesliga titles, one German Cup, whilst also taking them to the 2013 Champions League final. He is a legend at BVB, and that means that he is likely to have a good relationship with Michael Zorc and Co.

However, it is not always that simple. During his career, Klopp has signed just one player from a former club – Neven Subotic went with his boss from Mainz to Dortmund in 2008. Some players have even openly explained that Klopp’s presence on Merseyside persuaded them not to make the switch – we’re looking at you, Ilkay Gundogan (FantasyPL via Metro).

Of course, there aren’t too many players that Klopp managed who are still in Dortmund considering he left five years ago. But in Sancho’s case, former connections are unlikely to play too much of a role. The 19-year-old is clearly his team’s most valuable asset, and there are a number of clubs who would like to sign him. Given the interest, it will surely be about getting the best possible price for him, from whomever that maybe. If Liverpool don’t match what Dortmund want, whether Klopp has a connection or not, then why would they let him go there?

And even if a bid were accepted, it is no guarantee that Sancho would choose the Reds. He is, after all, a childhood Chelsea fan, one of the sides who are also in pursuit. That may be something that attracts him to London instead of the north-west.

There are plenty of factors to consider in this potential transfer. But Klopp’s connection with his former team is unlikely to play too big a role.

Meanwhile, Liverpool fans react to this man’s latest comments.

Southampton fans reveal stance on Fraser Forster

Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to reveal their stance on whether they would have Fraser Forster back at St Mary’s or not.

The 6-cap England international left the Saints back in the summer to rejoin Celtic on a season-long loan deal, where he has been in excellent form under Neil Lennon.

Forster has conceded just 22 goals in 34 appearances while also keeping an impressive 15 clean sheets.

The 31-year-old also saved a penalty from Alfredo Morelos to help the Hoops beat Rangers in the Scottish Cup final, while his efforts in the Scottish Premiership have helped Celtic to a ten-point lead over the Gers at the top of the table.

Most recently, Forster pulled off a stunning stop to deny Copenhagen a late goal in the Europa League Round of 32 encounter against the Danish outfit, tipping a penalty onto the post to help the Hoops take a 1-1 draw back to Celtic Park with them.

After he saved the spot-kick, a number of Southampton fans have been discussing whether or not they’d have him back…

To kick off the reaction, Nathan said that from a personal viewpoint, he would happily welcome the Englishman back to St Mary’s with open arms as long as the supporters all got behind him.

Kieran then added that there’s no need to take him back, as he’s clearly very happy at Celtic and should be left there so he can enjoy his football.

Elsewhere, Stuart echoed Kieran’s thoughts by saying that it will do Forster no good coming back to St Mary’s.

Jamie then said that people have short memories about the towering glovesman, before also adding that he thinks the keeper should remain at Celtic Park.

Lastly, these two fans compared Forster to Southampton’s existing options – Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn.

Dom said that he would like him back and that it’s a toss-up between the on-loan Celtic star and Gunn for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s No.1 spot, before appearing to take a dig at McCarthy for his positioning at corners and the defending of his near post.

From non-League to the Premier League: Where did these top-flight stars begin their careers?

James then defended the former Crystal Palace keeper by saying that he’s very good at what he does, so Forster shouldn’t be reinstated to the Southampton first-team.

Phil Hay says Pablo Hernandez showed his "class" in Leeds win

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has said that Pablo Hernandez’s performance during Leeds United’s 1-0 win over Reading last weekend “proved his class again”.The Spaniard has faced some recent criticism from some Leeds fans. However, Hay has praised the 34-year-old for his contribution against the Royals.Hernandez scored the only goal of the match in the 57th minute of the contest, but his overall statistics from the Championship affair were also impressive.

A true test for any Leeds fan: Can you match these iconic images with the right results?

Indeed, according to WhoScored, the attacker had six shots, made two tackles and completed 58 passes during his 85 minutes on the field.

Hernandez has taken on a new role for the Whites this season, operating in a central position for the promotion hopefuls, who go to Middlesbrough tonight.

And it will be fascinating to see whether the Spaniard can lead Marcelo Bielsa’s side into the Premier League following the disappointment of last season.

Hay’s words on the experienced campaigner are available to view below:

Meanwhile, a number of Leeds fans have been reacting to some Bielsa footage.
