Wolves missed out on their best summer signing by not securing late deal for Moses

According to the Daily Mirror’s James Nursey on Twitter, Wolves were interested in a late deadline day bid for Chelsea man Victor Moses, but no deal ever materialised for the 27-year-old.

What’s the story?

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte famously turned Moses into a wing-back at Chelsea, and Nursey reported that the Nigerian World Cup star was on the radar of Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo after Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko had turned down a move to the West Midlands.

Moses played 38 times in all competitions for Chelsea last season, scoring four goals and providing four assists as he acted as the wide-right outlet in Conte’s system.

However, with new boss Maurizio Sarri preferring a 4-3-3 formation, Moses will have to revert back to being an out and out winger higher up the pitch and will no longer be a guaranteed starter. If Wolves had gone in for the ex-Wigan man on deadline day they surely could have convinced him with the offer of regular game-time.

Nuno’s mistake

Santo prefers his team to play with wing-backs and Moses would have been a fantastic signing for the Premier League newcomers. Matt Doherty is currently the only senior right-sided defender at the club although new signing Jonny Castro can switch from the left if needed.

Moses though would have offered huge Premier League experience to a squad that, despite its obvious quality, is currently lacking in that department. Moses won the title in 2016/17 with Chelsea and could have brought as much to the dressing room at Molineux as he would have to the pitch.

Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the 38-cap international could have been the most important signing of the summer for Santo among all the star names.

Everton fans fume at Jagielka performance vs Wolves

Everton fans all agree Phil Jagielka has made his last start in an Everton shirt, as the veteran defender was sent off in the draw at Wolves.

Everton opened their Premier League season with an extremely difficult trip to Wolves, and it was made a whole lot more difficult by Jagielka’s red card.

The Toffees took the league mid-way through the first half when Richarlison poked home a debut goal, but everything changed just before the break.

“Jags” took an awful first touch just outside his box, and his lunge to recover the ball from the onrushing Diogo Jota earned him a red card.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”278155″ player=”12034″ title=”Every Transfer Window EVER”]

Ruben Neves put the resulting free kick in the top corner, and fans are not happy with Jagielka.

Both Yerry Mina and Kurt Zouma made the switch to Merseyside on deadline day, so it’s hard to see Jagielka getting back into the starting eleven now.

Whether or not the red card was deserved is really beside the point, as the 6 ft 0 ace should never have put himself in that position in the first place.

Arsenal fans take to Reddit as Ospina joins Napoli on loan

When Bernd Leno was bought by Unai Emery in the summer transfer window, questions arose about who out of Arsenal’s current crop of goalkeepers was going to leave.

Petr Cech started last weekend’s Premier League opening 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, which suggests that Leno is second in command.

David Ospina used to be second choice, but the new arrival pushed the Colombian further down the pecking order.

With the offer of first-team football seeming unlikely at the Emirates, the 29-year-old – valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt – looked elsewhere.

The shot-stopper has agreed to join Serie A outfit Napoli on loan, with The Guardian reporting that there is an option to buy for the Italians.

In reaction to this news, some Arsenal fans are hopeful that Ospina will return once Cech eventually leaves the North London outfit.

Others, though, would prefer the Colombian to completely call time on his Arsenal career, which has spanned four years.

Everton fans desperate for Zouma to start

Loads of Everton fans have been reacting to a tweet from new signing Kurt Zouma, and they can’t wait to see the big man in action.

Everton were right on the brink of having a total disaster of a transfer window, but several deadline deals turned the summer into a hugely successful one.

Yerry Mina has joined on a permanent deal, and while there are some reservations about the colossal Colombian, there are no such concerns over Zouma.

The Frenchman has Premier League experience, which makes him much less of a risk than Mina, and fans are heaping praise on the Chelsea loanee before he’s even kicked a ball.

Michael Keane has come under a fair bit of criticism since he joined the Toffees, and while the ex-Burnley man has improved this season, fans are still desperate to see Zouma in the side.

Mason Holgate has been impressive since Phil Jagielka’s red card, so Marco Silva has now got multiple quality options to choose from at the back.

PSG boss Tuchel comments on Danny Rose, Tottenham Hotspur fans react

Danny Rose’s Tottenham Hotspur career has been dwindling ever since he suffered a serious knee injury in January last year.Ben Davies stepped up and made the left-back role his own, so much so that when Rose was fighting fit, he struggled to win back his place. This season, Mauricio Pochettino has made it clear that the England international will not be first choice as Davies has started both Premier League matches so far.According to a recent report in theÂDaily Mail, the North London outfit are open to letting Rose leave and Paris Saint-Germain are among the clubs interested.Manager Thomas Tuchel addressed the rumours while speaking to the media, and while he did not confirm or deny whether he wanted to sign the left-back, he did express an admiration for the England international.

Tuchel was referring to the 2015-16 season when he was in charge of Borussia Dortmund and met Tottenham in the Europa League.

The German outfit won the tie 5-1 on aggregate, but it seems that Rose – valued at £27m by TransfermarktÂ- left an impression.

Tottenham fans have been reacting to Tuchel’s comments on Reddit.

West Ham fans react to Carabao Cup tie with Macclesfield Town

West Ham have struggled to find stability under Manuel Pellegrini this season, losing all three of their opening Premier League matches.

A first competitive win under the Chilean boss was secured in midweek against AFC Wimbledon though, as the Hammers battled back from behind to emerge as victors against the League One side.

West Ham’s reward is a third-round tie with League Two minnows Macclesfield Town, who will travel to the London Stadium in the week commencing the 24th September.

With form difficult to find, West Ham will hope to use these cup games as a chance to find their rhythm to build upon in the Premier League matches that follow and could use the competition as a route towards lifting a trophy at Wembley.

The Hammers have a while to go until they can start dreaming of that sort of date though and some gave their reaction to the draw on social media. We have gathered some of the best reactions below.

Liverpool star Salah struggling to regain scintillating form

Mohamed Salah was a revelation for Liverpool last season as he scored 44 goals in all competitions.

The Egyptian international was a major component in the club’s run to the Champions League and his goals helped them secure a top-four position in the Premier League.

Many would have hoped that the attacker would carry on where he left off this season, but it has been a slow start.

In fairness to Salah, he has two goals and two assists already to his name after four league outings.

However, such is the standard expected of him, the former Chelsea star is slightly below par.

For example, manager Jurgen Klopp opted to haul the attacker off after an unsuccessful 71 minutes against Leicester City on Saturday.

Liverpool won the match 2-1, but they were very fortunate to come away with all three points at the King Power Stadium.

During his stint on the pitch, Salah mustered just three shots and only one was on target.

The ex-Roma star had fewer touches on the ball than the entire starting XI, although it needs to be reiterated that he did not complete a full match.

There is certainly nothing for Liverpool to worry about at this stage, but from Salah’s point of view he will be frustrated that he is yet to find his stride.

At this moment in time, the 26-year-old’s clinical final touch is missing, but once he finds it, the Reds’ attack will be devastating once more.

HYS: Should Leeds swoop to sign Yasin Ben El-Mhanni?

Leeds United have enjoyed a thrilling start to the season, with Marcelo Bielsa making waves in the first few months of his spell at Elland Road.

The Peacocks experienced a major overhaul in the summer with a number of exits and also strengthened their side with additions – although it has been speculated that Bielsa remains in the hunt for further names to bolster his ranks having made just the six additions to his senior squad.

Goal reported at the end of August that Leeds hold an interest in free-agent Yasin Ben El-Mhanni, who was released by Newcastle United over the course of the close-season and is available to sign before the January transfer window opens.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”290059″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch The FFC Accy Show Put the international break to good use”]

However, recent reports from The Sun suggest that Leeds could miss out on the 22-year-old as he is considering a move to Europe – which raises the question as to whether a move should be made to beat clubs from the continent in the running.

With Leeds being well stocked in the wide areas and landing Izzy Brown late in the window, El-Mhanni is certainly not a player that the Peacocks are crying out for even if he has the talent to provide a boost if needed.

So, Leeds fans, should Bielsa make a move for El-Mhanni? Or should he stick with the options he has? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…

Liverpool fans adore Firmino’s goal celebration following dramatic win over Paris Saint-Germain

Not many would have predicted a win for Liverpool on Tuesday night when Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe were named in Paris Saint-Germain’s lineup at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were facing their biggest test of the season when they kicked off their Champions League campaign against the French giants.

However, they dominated large chunks of the match and managed to come away with all three points thanks to a thrilling 3-2 triumph.

Roberto Firmino was the hero as he struck in the 91st minute with a low hit to secure the victory for Liverpool.

The Brazilian was introduced off the substitutes’ bench in the 72nd minute as he was not deemed ready to start due to an abrasion on his eye that he suffered during a challenge with Jan Vertonghen against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

After scoring the winner at Anfield, Firmino incorporated the injury into his goal celebration by covering his left eye with his hand.

It is safe to say that plenty of Liverpool fans enjoyed it.

Klopp’s latest comments on Sturridge and Firmino should have Liverpool’s rivals worried

In Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, Liverpool have the best attack in the Premier League and one that is capable of outscoring almost every team in Europe.

Last season, the trio were absolutely devastating in front of goal, but Jurgen Klopp could now look to ease the burden on his attacking trident.

The Breakdown

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s game tomorrow against Southampton at Anfield, Klopp told reporters (via Sky Sports): “Could they [Firmino and Sturridge] play together? Yes of course.

“It’s just positive the impact Daniel had [against PSG]. It was an intense game, it was a fantastic game by him, to be honest, so that’s the best news and so now we know more about that.”

With £13.5m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Sturridge looking fit and firing again, the 29-year-old could provide Klopp with the opportunity to rest Salah or Mane by sticking him in attack with Firmino.

And if the German does so, Liverpool are likely to remain just as dangerous in attack whether it is Salah, Mane or Firmino on the bench at the expense of Sturridge starting.

In terms of finishing, Sturridge is up there in the division alongside the likes of Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane.

His performances alongside Luis Suarez back in the 2013-14 season have gone under the radar quite a bit due to all of the injuries he has picked up since then.

But if the England international can remain fit, in Liverpool’s current set up, he is more than capable of matching the recent tallies of Mane and Firmino.

The thought of Liverpool chasing a game with a healthy Sturridge and Firmino up front would be a real scary thought for defenders clinging onto a slender lead, and is a combination that could help Klopp to freshen things up in attack if necessary.
